Workshop Leading Hand - Construction Equipment Dealership
Our client is one of Australia’s largest dealerships of construction machinery with over 20 branches Australia-wide, providing new and used equipment sales, servicing and machinery hire to the construction and mining industries. They are authorised dealers for more than 10 major OEM brands including ASV Posi-Track, Develon, JCB, XCMG, Wacker Neuson and Fecon, stocking a comprehensive range of construction, compaction and forestry equipment.
Due to continued growth at their Rocklea dealership, our client is seeking an experienced Leading Hand to lead and support their workshop & field service teams while remaining hands‑on when required.

The Role
This is a hands-on leadership position suited to an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic who enjoys mentoring others while remaining actively involved on the workshop floor. Working closely with the Service Manager, you will coordinate daily workshop activities, allocate jobs, provide technical guidance to technicians and apprentices, and ensure servicing and repairs are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining workshop productivity while fostering a positive team culture and delivering exceptional customer outcomes.
The Candidate
- Relevant Heavy Diesel or Mobile Plant Trade Qualification
- Previous experience in a Leading Hand, Senior Technician or Supervisory role highly regarded
- Extensive experience working on construction, earthmoving, agricultural or heavy equipment
- Strong diagnostics and fault-finding skills
- Ability to read hydraulic and electrical schematics highly regarded
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, strong organisational and time management abilities
- A/C Licence and Forklift Ticket highly regarded but not essential
- Current Australian Driver's Licence
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Reliable, motivated and able to lead by example
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily workshop & field service operations
- Allocate and prioritise repair and servicing work
- Provide technical support and mentoring to workshop & field service teams
- Carry out diagnostics, servicing and major repairs on construction equipment
- Perform new machinery assembly and pre-delivery inspections
- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently and to manufacturer standards
- Assist with quality control and final inspections
- Support apprentice development and ongoing staff training
- Liaise with the Service Manager regarding workflow, parts and scheduling
- Promote a secure, productive and positive workshop environment
Remuneration & Working Hours
- $55.00 - $65.00 Per Hour Flat Rate
- + Super
- Minimum 40 hours per week
