We are seeking an Infrastructure Engineer (Identity and Authentication) to join our team at YNOT Consulting Services in Canberra, ACT. This is a full-time position (ongoing / Contract) that plays a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining identity and authentication systems that form the backbone of secure organisational infrastructure. You will be responsible for ensuring robust, scalable, and secure identity management solutions that protect organisational assets and enable secure access for users across complex IT environments. This role is essential to our capability in delivering enterprise-grade infrastructure solutions to our clients.
Key responsibilities
- Assisting senior engineers with the administration and support of Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS).
- Supporting the day-to-day operation of Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) and learning how federated authentication and Single Sign-On (SSO) work in practice.
- Helping to maintain Microsoft Windows Server environments, including Group Policy, DNS, DHCP and related services.
- Assisting with certificate management (SSL/TLS) and learning about Public Key Infrastructure (PKI).
- Contributing to monitoring,
maintenance and troubleshooting of infrastructure and authentication services under guidance.
- Writing and updating technical documentation, procedures and knowledge base articles.
- Learning and applying ITIL service management processes (Incident, Problem and Change Management).
What we're looking for
- Foundational understanding of Windows operating systems and general IT infrastructure concepts.
- Basic understanding of Active Directory and how enterprise authentication works.
- Awareness of networking fundamentals such as TCP/IP and DNS.
- A willingness to learn scripting and automation (e.g. PowerShell).
- Strong troubleshooting mindset and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
- Eagerness to learn about identity, authentication and security technologies.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Relevant industry certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, Okta Certified Skilled, or similar qualifications are highly desirable
- Experience working in secure government or enterprise environments is preferred
Nice to Have
- Any exposure to ADFS, federated authentication, SSO or identity federation (through study, labs, or work).
- Familiarity with any authentication or identity protocols such as SAML 2.0, WS-Federation, OAuth 2.0 or OpenID Connect.
- Awareness of Microsoft Entra ID (Azure Active Directory) or hybrid identity concepts.
- Exposure to Microsoft Entra Connect (Azure AD Connect).
- Basic understanding of Group Policy, DNS, DHCP or Certificate Services.
- Any experience with PowerShell scripting.
- An interest in networking components such as firewalls, load balancers and reverse proxies.
- Awareness of security concepts, MFA, or Conditional Access.
- Any exposure to ITIL or structured service management processes.
Must have
This role requires a current NV1 Australian Government Security Clearance. Candidates holding a Baseline clearance who are willing to obtain NV may be considered.
