Today News Group is seeking journalists to report for Western Downs Today, the Goondiwindi Argus and Maranoa Today.

These are flexible, home-based positions for journalists living in, or prepared to relocate to, the Western Downs, Goondiwindi or Maranoa regions.

While you will work remotely from home, this is not a remote reporting position in the traditional sense. Our journalists must be part of the communities they cover—meeting local people, attending events, building trusted contacts and understanding the issues that matter locally.

Successful applicants may work primarily for one masthead while also contributing to broader coverage across the three regions.

From council decisions,



community campaigns and business developments to agriculture, sport, education, health, tourism and local personalities, the role offers genuine variety and the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution.

You will have the flexibility and independence of working from home, supported by an experienced editorial and production team.

Your work will include:

- Researching and writing local news and feature stories
- Attending community events, council meetings and regional occasions
- Interviewing residents, business owners, community leaders and decision-makers
- Taking photographs and producing content for print and digital platforms
- Developing strong and trusted local contacts
- Identifying important community issues and stories
- Working with editors and colleagues across the Today News Group network

These positions may suit experienced journalists, recent university graduates, cadets or people with strong writing skills and a genuine understanding of regional communities.

Full-time or part-time arrangements may be considered, depending on the experience, location and availability of successful applicants.

About you

The successful applicants will ideally have:

- Journalism experience or a relevant university qualification
- Strong writing, interviewing and communication skills
- Photography skills
- A natural curiosity and enthusiasm for local news
- The ability to work independently from home while remaining connected to the wider editorial team
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Strong people skills and the confidence to build relationships across the community
- A genuine interest in regional Queensland and the people and issues shaping local communities
- A current driver’s licence and reliable access to transport

Previous regional news media experience is desirable but not essential.

Most importantly, you will need to live within one of the regions covered by Western Downs Today, the Goondiwindi Argus or Maranoa Today, or be prepared to relocate there, and be committed to becoming an active and trusted part of the local community.
