The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Senior Maintenance Officer's to provide a critical role at the Melbourne Assessment Prison.

About the Business Unit

The Melbourne Assessment Prison (MAP) is a maximum-security correctional facility located on the fringe of the Melbourne CBD. The Prison is the State's main reception prison, receiving prisoners directly from the Courts and Police and provides assessment and orientation services for all male prisoners received into the prison system. The MAP also operates St Augustine's and St Vincents hospitals, the Melbourne County Court, Supreme Court and Supreme Court Appeals custody facilities, located on the corner of William and Lonsdale Streets in the CBD. These facilities manage both male and female prisoners of all security ratings, operating Monday to Friday. The location also manages the St Vincents Hospital holding cells, providing custodial liaison and coordination of all prisoner escorts attending the hospital for medical outpatient appointments from prison locations across the State. MAP also looks after the security function at the Adult Parole Board and the Post Sentence Authority located at 50 Franklin Street West Melbourne.

About the Role

The Senior Maintenance Officer requires a sound working knowledge of maintenance services and requirements. The successful candidates will have the ability to engage with contractors, support compliance with OH&S; Policies and Regulations, working within the guidelines of the Department of Justice and Community Safety.

Some of your duties will include:





- In collaboration with the Facility Manager and Maintenance Supervisor be responsible for the efficient and effective management of the maintenance of the prison.
- Provide maintenance support to the prison facility, including diagnostic advice regarding buildings, facilities, plant and equipment across the site.
- Act as the main on site liaison for contractors and trades persons undertaking work at MAP, the Maintenance Officer will escort contractors, prepare Job Safety Analysis and assist in OH&S; inductions.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Computer Skills - Effectively use departmental computer systems for basic word processing, email, appointment scheduling, and internet and intranet functions.
- Good knowledge and understanding of OH&S.;

Qualifications/requirements

- Trade qualification in Painting, Decorating, Plumbing or Electrical are highly desirable.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) and misconduct screening.
