About Us

Knotwood is a leading manufacturer of aluminium battens, cladding, screening and decking systems, supplying architectural and building projects across different countries. Our products combine the warmth of a timber aesthetic with the durability and fire performance of aluminium, and are backed by CodeMark certification and independent testing. We are a fast-growing, technically driven business where engineering, compliance and product development sit at the heart of what we do.

The Role

We are looking for a Product Engineer to join our product team in Southport. Reporting to the Product Manager, you will own the technical backbone of our product range, driving certification and compliance, maintaining accurate technical drawings, coordinating laboratory and fire testing, and providing engineering support to our sales, business development and specification teams. This is a hands‑on, cross‑functional role suited to an engineer who enjoys moving between CAD, building codes, supplier coordination and real‑world product problem solving.

Key Responsibilities

- Obtaining and maintaining product certification across multiple markets (Australia, Recent Zealand and the US), including CodeMark, and managing engineering evaluation reports and certification applications.
- Ensuring products meet the relevant building codes, Australian and international standards and fire performance requirements.
- Planning and coordinating multiple tests with external laboratories, and managing test plans, results and supporting documentation.
- Develop 3D models,

assemblies and design simulations in SolidWorks (essential) to validate and optimise products prior to tooling and testing.
- Collaborating with aluminium extrusion suppliers to obtain and verify up-to-date die drawings, new dies and profile changes, and supporting new product development from concept through to certification.
- Providing clear, accurate technical support and guidance to our sales, business development and specification teams, and to architects, specifiers and clients, on our products.
- Preparing and maintaining product performance data for use by internal teams and specifiers.

Experience

Experience in a similar product or design engineering role.

Software

Proficiency with CAD, BIM softwares and SolidWorks.

Qualifications

Degree in Mechanical, Materials, Civil/Structural or a related engineering discipline.

Codes & Standards

Understanding of relevant building codes and standards across multiple markets (e.g. Australia, New Zealand and the US), and product certification or compliance processes.

Ways of working

Robust communicator, well organised, and able to manage multiple projects, testing timelines and stakeholders.

What We Offer

- A genuine career development role within the company.
- Hands‑on involvement with real products used on architectural projects.
- Exposure to global product development over time.
- Competitive salary with clear progression as capability increases.
- Supportive, technically focused team environment.
