About the role

In this hands-on role, you will undertake on-site Laser Scanning, Reality Capture and Total Station set outs for Watkins Steel and external clients. You will also assist with data management and marketing by uploading, registering and managing spatial data, as well as capturing and editing photo and video content. Working closely with management, project managers and external stakeholders, you will help clarify design intent and scope, resolve issues, and ensure that all project deliverables are completed on time and to a high standard.

Key responsibilities

- Accurately scan on site using a range of laser scanning equipment and software, including setting up control as required.
- Complete Total Station set outs for Watkins structural steel projects and general set outs for external clients.
- Establish sites with control survey points for layout and design purposes.
- Apply surveying processes and procedures appropriate to the job brief and required accuracy.

- Process spatial data efficiently to a high standard and in line with QA procedures.
- Register scans, perform QA checks and deliver accurate, fit‑for‑purpose datasets.
- Maintain, check and adjust survey equipment and consumables as required.
- Proactively communicate with managers and project managers on progress, issues, delays and upcoming Total Station set out needs.
- Perform light administration tasks related to data upload, registration and documentation.
- Support marketing activities through capturing and editing photo and video content.
- Champion a strong Health and Safety culture on all sites and within the business.

Skills and experience

- Technical understanding of laser scanning processes and hardware, Total Station and relevant software.
- General surveying experience, with a surveying qualification preferred but not essential.
- Thorough, accurate and methodical approach, consistently producing precise work.
- Systematic mindset, with the ability to develop and follow processes to ensure completion of work.
- Strong interpersonal skills to engage and manage internal and external stakeholders.
- Proactive ownership of schedules, ensuring deadlines are met and tasks are completed.
- Innovative mindset, continually looking to improve processes, quality and efficiency.

What we’re looking for

You will suit this role if you enjoy working both on site and in the office, are comfortable with technology and spatial data, and take pride in delivering accurate, high‑quality outputs. You will be someone who communicates clearly, collaborates well with project teams, and is proactive in solving problems before they impact project timelines.
