Are you a finance professional who loves being close to the action? WPE is a high-growth, privately owned enterprise looking for a dynamic Financial Controller - Senior Accountant to take full ownership of our day-to-day finance operations while partnering directly with the Managing Director to drive commercial performance.

You will lead a small, dedicated finance team, streamline our compliance, and actively look for ways to optimize our systems using modern technology and AI.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, your dual commercial and operational responsibilities will include:

- Commercial Insights: Provide financial analysis, cash flow forecasting, and commercially focused recommendations to support business growth.

- Full-Function Finance: Prepare monthly management reporting packs, monthly P&L; reconciliations, and financial reviews using Xero.

- Operational Leadership: Support, mentor, and oversee a small finance team of 5.

- Payroll & Treasury:



Manage end-to-end payroll processing for ~80 employees via Employment Hero and oversee weekly creditor payment runs.

- Compliance & Tax: Manage statutory obligations, including the preparation and lodgement of monthly BAS, fuel tax credit reconciliations, and maintaining year-end workpapers.

- Systems Optimization: Manage and optimize our in-house management system, championing the use of AI and automation to improve reporting efficiency and accuracy.

What You Bring

To be successful in this role, you are a hands-on operator who thrives in a medium-sized business environment. You will have:

- Qualifications: Formal accounting qualifications (CA, CPA, or equivalent preferred).

- SME Experience: Demonstrated a minimum 5 years experience managing full-function finance operations in a fast-paced environment. Transport/Logistics experience would be an advantage

- Tech-Savvy Mindset: Advanced proficiency in Xero and MS Office. A strong interest or experience in utilizing AI tools to drive productivity and reporting efficiency is highly desirable.

- Technical Sharpness: A deep understanding of company structures, trusts & statutory compliance.

- Communication: Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex data into practical business insights.
