The Place Occupational Therapy and Family Support – Highfields QLD
This must be the place to grow, belong and make a difference.
At The Place, we believe behaviour is communication.
We’re looking for a Behaviour Support Practitioner assessed as Proficient level or above who wants to do meaningful, ethical work without feeling isolated, overloaded or reduced to a set of billable targets.
We’re building a Behaviour Support service grounded in curiosity, collaboration, dignity and real‑world understanding. We want good humans — the kind who are reflective, values‑driven, confident in their practice and genuinely interested in understanding the person behind the behaviour.
You’ll have the opportunity to help shape a growing service while being supported by a multidisciplinary team that values thoughtful practice, strong relationships and doing things properly.
What we do
We work across the lifespan, supporting children, teens, adults and their families.
Our approach is practical, person‑centred and neuroaffirming. We take the time to understand what behaviour may be communicating, what is happening in the person’s environment, what needs are not being met, and how the people around them can respond in ways that are secure, respectful and sustainable.
You might find us completing a Functional Behaviour Assessment, observing a participant at home or school, working alongside a family, coaching a support team, reviewing restrictive practices, gathering information from multiple services, facilitating collaborative meetings or developing a Behaviour Support Plan that people can actually understand and use.
We work alongside our Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Family Support and Allied Health Assistant teams to provide coordinated support around the whole person — not just the behaviour being seen.
We don’t just hire people — we build with them.
As a growing NDIS‑registered Specialist Behaviour Support provider, we’re creating a service that reflects the kind of practice we believe participants and families deserve.
You’ll have a genuine voice in how the service develops, including our processes, resources, clinical systems, service pathways and approach to quality and governance.
We’re deeply connected to our local community and want Behaviour Support to feel collaborative and accessible, rather than clinical, punitive or removed from everyday life.
We’re values‑first,
people‑first and proud of the culture we’re creating.
What you’ll be doing
- Conducting Functional Behaviour Assessments.
- Developing Interim and Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans.
- Identifying, reviewing and supporting the reduction of restrictive practices.
- Gathering information through interviews, observations, records and collaborative assessment.
- Providing implementation support, coaching and education to families, carers, schools and support teams.
- Monitoring outcomes and adjusting strategies based on the person’s changing needs.
- Working collaboratively with participants, families, providers and multidisciplinary teams.
- Supporting the development of ethical, practical and sustainable Behaviour Support services.
- Maintaining documentation and practice requirements in line with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.
- Contributing to clinical governance, reflective practice and service development.
What you’ll get
- $100,000–$120,000 base salary plus super — tailored to your skills, experience and practitioner level. We believe in paying our team well to reflect the complexity, responsibility and impact of Behaviour Support work.
- Hybrid work that actually works — a mix of working from home, our Highfields clinic and community‑based appointments.
- True flexibility — full‑time, part‑time or a schedule that works with your life, especially if you’re a working parent. We understand that real life does not always fit neatly into business hours.
- A thoughtfully curated caseload — developed around your experience, interests, location and capacity.
- Protected clinical support — regular supervision, reflective practice, case consultation and access to experienced leadership.
- Uncapped professional development — your learning, your way, with a personalised professional development and career pathway plan.
- Support from day one — structured onboarding, administration support, streamlined systems and a team who has your back.
- Time to do quality work — we understand that effective Behaviour Support requires assessment, collaboration,
planning, reflection and follow‑through.
- All the tools and technology you need — including a laptop, phone, clinical resources, assessment tools and practical materials.
- Beautiful spaces to work from — purpose‑built clinic rooms and calming outdoor areas designed to support regulation, connection and collaboration.
- Multidisciplinary support under one roof — work alongside Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Family Support Practitioners and Allied Health Assistants.
- Regular team social events and connection — because we like each other, and culture matters.
- A genuinely family‑friendly workplace — we understand kids, caring responsibilities, school events, appointments, sick days and real life.
- Values‑based rewards and recognition — celebrating quality, teamwork, creativity, contribution, client experience and the way people live our values.
- A strong stance on inclusion — we actively welcome practitioners from all backgrounds and identities and are committed to creating a safe and empowering workplace.
- A culture that walks the talk — fun, honesty and kindness are non‑negotiables around here.
What you’ll bring
- Current suitability assessment as an NDIS Behaviour Support Practitioner at Proficient level or above.
- Experience conducting Functional Behaviour Assessments and developing Behaviour Support Plans.
- A strong understanding of the NDIS Behaviour Support framework, restrictive practices and relevant reporting requirements.
- A genuine commitment to person‑centred, rights‑based and neuroaffirming practice.
- Strong written communication and report‑writing skills.
- Confidence working collaboratively with participants, families, carers, educators, support teams and other professionals.
- The ability to work independently while remaining connected to a supportive team.

If you’re looking for a role where your experience is respected, your ideas matter, your wellbeing is protected and you get to help shape something meaningful — we’d love to hear from you.
