You're not in a bad job. You're in a job that stopped being good.
There's a particular kind of frustration that doesn't show up on a bad day. It shows up on an ordinary one - when you realise you're doing solid work, the work is going well, and absolutely nothing is changing because of it.
No next conversation. No broadening scope. No signal that anyone has noticed where you actually are or where you could go.
If that's where you are right now, this is worth reading.
The role
A structural consultancy with a Brisbane office in genuine growth is looking for a structural engineer at the four- to seven-year mark - someone who can run projects from start to finish and is RPEQ registered, or close enough to count the remaining steps.
You'd be stepping into a seat vacated by someone who came in with Tier 1 experience and grew significantly under direct technical mentorship from partners and directors. The expectation is that the next person through that door gets the same.
There's also something worth naming directly: there's currently no regional structural manager in Brisbane. That's not a gap the firm is ignoring - it's a pathway. For someone at this career stage with the right motivation and an eye on leadership, that's a genuinely open door, not a talking point.
The work
High-end luxury residential structural design is the centrepiece - national-scale lifestyle resort development, premium villa and community structures across multiple sites Australia-wide. Not volume housing. Not repetitive documentation. Detailed, considered structural work that demands proper engineering thinking on every project.
Beyond that: commercial and industrial. Portal frame-hot-rolled steel, one to three-storey commercial. Real variety, consistent quality expectation. Regular collaboration with the Gold Coast team on larger projects.
The people
The Brisbane structural team is two senior engineers, two intermediates, two juniors, senior drafters, and an intern. A director comes up regularly for project-specific mentoring and guidance. The wider office - civil and structural together - is a genuinely valuable group. Monthly social events organised by the team themselves, a whole-office morning tea every Wednesday. No politics, no negativity. Just people who work well together.
Not corporate. Explicitly not corporate. If you've spent time inside a large firm feeling like a number in a bucket, the culture here will feel like a different industry.
New starters are treated as permanent from day one. Not after probation. From day one.
The credential
RPEQ is the requirement - because this person needs to sign off their own work. That's the functional reason, not a box-ticking exercise. If your EA chartership application is active and your CPD is largely complete, you're in scope. The firm will support the registration process for the right person on the final stretch.
If RPEQ support is something your current employer has been promising without delivering, that's worth noting.
The firm
Founded over forty years ago. Around 100 people across five offices across QLD, NSW and VIC. Eight directors. ISO certified across quality, safety, and environmental. Long staff tenure throughout - not as a talking point, but as evidence of what it's actually like to work there.
What's in it for you
$110,000 - $130,000 + super, depending on experience and registration status. Six-month salary review as standard, annual cycle in September.
The salary is competitive. But if your experience matches the pattern above, you already know that's not the point. The point is whether anyone is going to give you room to grow into what you're actually capable of.
