Company Overview
FSA Consulting Engineers (FSACE) is a Brisbane-based consulting engineering firm specialising in marine, structural, civil infrastructure, temporary works, and commercial projects.
About the Role
We're looking for a Structural Engineer to join our team at the Lytton Refinery, supporting structural inspection works across an active oil refinery and production site.
This is a hands‑on, site‑based role where you'll gain genuine exposure to refinery operations while working alongside experienced engineers. Around 40% of your time will be spent on‑site conducting inspections, with the remaining 60% dedicated to preparation and processing inspection findings.
You will never be required to work alone — you'll always be paired with an experienced engineer who knows the systems and procedures, and full on‑site training will be provided.
We're also open to applications from undergraduates still completing their studies. If you're finishing your degree in November 2026, we can offer a minimum of 2 days a week while you study, transitioning to full‑time once you graduate.
What You’ll Be Doing
Conducting structural inspections across refinery infrastructure, working alongside an experienced engineer
Receiving hands‑on training in inspection techniques and defect identification
Preparing for inspections and processing findings, including reporting on structural condition and defects
Providing updates and documentation for review by an RPEQ structural engineer
Maintaining and updating inspection records across relevant databases
Gaining first‑hand exposure to the day‑to‑day operations of an oil refinery and production facility
What We’re Looking For
A structural engineering background is preferred,
but candidates with relevant industry experience or a civil engineering background are also encouraged to apply
Strong, clear communication skills are essential, with the ability to confidently explain inspection findings
A mature, positive and professional attitude is expected in all interactions on site and in reporting
High attention to detail is critical, as accurate written reports form a key part of the role
A proactive, problem‑solving mindset is essential, with confidence to independently find solutions when unfamiliar tasks arise
Comfortable working with Excel and familiar with structured workflows
SAP experience is advantageous but not essential
A willingness to learn, work as part of a team, and adapt to an operational refinery environment
No prior refinery or inspection experience required — full training provided
Currently studying civil or structural engineering and completing your degree in November 2026? We'd love to hear from you — minimum 2 days a week while you finish up, moving to full‑time once you graduate
Why Join Us
Gain valuable, hands‑on experience in an active refinery setting
Work alongside experienced engineers and build your inspection and reporting skill set
Structured, supportive team environment — you're never sent out on‑site alone
Strong potential for high‑performing candidates to transition into an ongoing consultancy role within the company once the contract period concludes
This is a fixed‑term contract position aligned with the current inspection program. All candidates will undergo a probation period, after which performance will be reviewed. For the right candidate, there may be opportunities to continue in a consultancy capacity beyond the initial contract term.
