Positive Care and Supports is seeking one or two reliable and highly experienced Disability Support Workers to provide consistent community access support to a 17-year-old male participant.
The participant lives with Autism Spectrum Disorder Level 3, moderate intellectual disability and epilepsy. He may experience behaviours of concern, including aggression and self-injurious behaviour. This role requires a calm, confident and experienced worker who can follow established behaviour support and risk-management strategies.
Experienced Disability Support Worker
Gladesville to Mosman | After-School Community Access
Positive Care and Supports is seeking one or two reliable and highly experienced Disability Support Workers to provide consistent community access support to a 17-year-old male participant.
The participant lives with Autism Spectrum Disorder Level 3, moderate intellectual disability and epilepsy. He may experience behaviours of concern, including aggression and self-injurious behaviour. This role requires a calm, confident and experienced worker who can follow established behaviour support and risk-management strategies.
Support Schedule
During school terms:
- Every Wednesday
- Fortnightly Thursday and Friday shifts, alternating weekly
- Commencing at 2:45 pm with school pick-up in Gladesville
- Finishing between 5:45 pm and 6:45 pm with drop-off in Mosman
The role will involve supporting the participant to safely engage in community-based activities while promoting choice, participation and positive experiences.
About You
You will:
- Have significant experience supporting young people with complex autism and intellectual disability
- Be confident responding safely to aggression, self-injurious behaviour and other behaviours of concern
- Have experience implementing Behaviour Support Plans and proactive support strategies
- Be confident administering emergency seizure medication in accordance with training and the participant’s health plan
- Remain calm, patient and skilled during challenging situations
- Be reliable and able to commit to the regular ongoing roster
- Communicate effectively with the participant’s family, school and support team
- Hold a valid driver’s licence and have access to a safe, insured vehicle
Female support workers are strongly preferred based on the participant’s support and matching requirements.
Mandatory Requirements
Applicants must hold:
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Working with Children Check
- Valid Australian driver’s licence
- Comprehensive vehicle insurance
- Relevant medication and epilepsy training, or willingness to complete participant-specific training
- Appropriate disability, community services or related qualifications
Consistency Is Essential
The participant requires a stable and familiar support team. We are therefore seeking one or two workers who can commit to the roster on an ongoing basis. This position is not suitable for applicants who are unable to provide regular availability or who frequently require shifts to be covered by other workers.
Successful applicants will receive participant-specific induction and access to relevant Behaviour Support Plan information, health protocols and support strategies before commencing independent shifts.
