Where you'll be working
Tamworth Safe Haven is seeking casual Peer Workers to join the team at its Bridge Street location. Safe Haven is a welcoming, non-clinical drop-in service for people experiencing suicidal ideation or who have been impacted by suicide. The Tamworth Secure Haven team is inclusive, collaborative and supportive.
About the role
As a Safe Haven Peer Worker, you will draw on your lived experience of suicide to provide person-centred support to people at risk of suicide. Working in a safe, non-clinical workplace, you will support people experiencing suicidal ideation or those impacted by suicide, while helping them connect with services that address the underlying factors contributing to their distress.
Support may include psychosocial support, safety planning, recovery and wellness planning, individual and group peer support, advocacy, collaborative identification of community supports, follow-up, and assistance to access other services. You will also work closely with key services and stakeholders, including Community Mental Health teams and The Way Back Service, to help ensure people are linked with appropriate ongoing supports.
The Tamworth Safe Haven operates on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 4:00pm to 9:00pm. During each shift,
you will work alongside a Mental Health Clinician and be supported by your Line Manager and Professional Leads through regular structured clinical supervision, ongoing education, professional development opportunities, and access to internal in-service programs.
About you
You are able to draw on your lived experience of suicide in a safe, meaningful and purposeful way to support others. You enjoy working collaboratively with clinicians as part of a multidisciplinary mental health service and are committed to providing person-centred peer support that promotes recovery and connection to appropriate services.
Requirements
- Attainment of the Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (Consumer), or successful completion of Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (Consumer) within 18 months of commencing position, including completion of CHCCCS003:Increase the safety of individuals at risk of suicide. Please upload a copy of your qualifications.
- Eligible to drive in NSW and willingness to travel for work purposes.
- Willingness to work weekend and evening shifts.
Additional Information
- To be eligible for employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or hold an appropriate visa that allows you to live and work in Australia. Employment of a temporary visa holder will only be offered in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa.
