Our client is a major producer of separated rare earth materials, supplying critical minerals used in electric vehicles, renewable energy, defence and advanced manufacturing.

The operation is located in the Western Australia region, roughly a one-hour flight from Perth, and anchors the company's global supply chain.

The site has recently completed a significant expansion, increasing processing capacity and footprint. Construction and commissioning are complete, the expanded facility is fully operational, and focus has shifted to safely optimising and supporting ongoing operations.

While the core HSE team continues to support day-to-day operational requirements, the company is seeking an experienced HSE skilled to take ownership of a portfolio of improvement projects requiring dedicated focus and delivery.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the HSE Superintendent, this role has been created to provide dedicated project support across the operation.

This is not a traditional HSE Advisor role. Rather than spending your day on inspections, observations and generalist HSE activities, you'll own projects the HSE Superintendent has identified as priorities — researching solutions, engaging the workforce, and driving delivery from concept to close-out. This frees the core HSE team to focus on the day-to-day operation.

Examples of Current Projects

- Hand Protection Review
- Refresh and standardise the site's glove matrix.
- Research the latest PPE technologies and engage with suppliers.
- Consult the workforce on what works and where improvements are needed.
- Coordinate product trials and evaluate chemical, cut and impact resistant options.
- Recommend improvements to hand protection and standardise selection across site.

- Site Security Improvements

- Research and evaluate improvements to site access and security.
- Review boom gates, swipe card systems and electronic access controls.
- Assess visitor management and contractor sign-in processes.
- Review vehicle access controls, CCTV and other practical security initiatives.
- Recommend improvements to site security and access management.

- Incident Investigations

- Work through a backlog of investigations requiring completion.
- Identify root causes and develop practical corrective actions.
- Work with operational leaders to improve safety outcomes.

- Corrective Actions & Systems Management

- Manage and progress outstanding actions generated through the site's HSE management system.
- Ensure actions are assigned, implemented and closed out effectively.
- Prevent improvement initiatives from accumulating unresolved.

As operational priorities evolve, additional improvement projects will be allocated — providing ongoing variety and genuine impact across site.

About You

Technical capability matters, but cultural fit is equally critical. The site has built a collaborative, people-focused safety culture, and this role suits someone who builds trust with the workforce rather than auditing it.

You're comfortable in the field — listening to operators,

understanding how work is actually performed, and involving the workforce in developing practical improvements. Whether reviewing PPE, investigating incidents or delivering other projects, you engage with the people doing the work rather than making assumptions from behind a desk.

You're approachable, consultative and genuinely curious — someone who asks questions to understand, values workforce experience, and works with people rather than trying to catch them out.

Experience

We're open to candidates from a range of operational backgrounds who enjoy owning improvement projects. Ideally you bring:

- Experience using enterprise HSE management systems like STEMS, MYOSH or similar.
- Experience managing investigations, corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- ICAM investigation training preferred.
- Experience with 5 Whys methodology also considered.
- Lead Investigator and/or Lead Auditor qualifications highly regarded.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach with the ability to manage projects independently from concept to completion.

What's on Offer

- 8&6 FIFO roster from Perth.
- FIFO to site (approximately a one-hour flight from Perth).
- 12-hour paid shifts.
- Initial six-month assignment.
- Strong potential for extension where value continues to be demonstrated — similar project-based roles have remained in place well beyond their original term where a clear business case exists.
- Ownership of meaningful HSE improvement projects rather than routine compliance activities.
- Competitive hourly rate, dependent on experience.
