Hire A Loo
Coolum Beach
Looking to sink your teeth into a logistics scheduling role and take full ownership?
Based at Coolum Beach on the Sunshine Coast, this is a service delivery leadership role within a well-established liquid waste business working predominantly with portable toilets, and commercial holding tanks.
This opportunity would suit an experienced scheduler who understands local service deliveries, difficult customer sites and the realities drivers face every day and who is ready to take ownership of a transport operation.
This is not an office-only role, with time to be spent in the field ensuring our services are being delivered to our standards, scoping customer sites, and working with major public events.
You’ll work closely with a team of five drivers, yard people, customers, other liquid waste and portable toilet hire companies, and the business ownership, coordinating a mixed fleet of 8 trucks, smaller mobile fleet and approximately 600 portable toilets.
What’s in it for you?
- Opportunity for advancement over time
- Involvement in growing business with expanding possibilities - exposure to new software and technologies
- Structured on-boarding and systems training
- A role where you can make a genuine operational impact
Your first month
The first few weeks will be focused on learning the operation properly. You’ll spend time travelling with different drivers to understand:
- The team and how they work
- What services we deliver
- How items are unloaded and picked up onsite
- Common delivery locations and access challenges
- The practical issues drivers encounter day to day
Once you understand the operation,
you’ll gradually take ownership of the planning, coordination and administration side of the transport function.
Your new role
- Plan and coordinate daily delivery runs
- Prepare runs, schedules and delivery manifests
- Supervise, support and train a team of drivers
- Build strong working relationships across drivers, yard team and customer service
- Coordinate a mixed fleet of approximately 8 vehicles
- Use our internal transport planning systems to manage daily runs (extensive training will be provided)
- Monitor fleet servicing, maintenance and repairs
- Coordinate tyre replacement and vehicle-mounted crane servicing
- Liaise with customers regarding delivery timing and site access
- Attend customer sites to assess difficult or unusual deliveries
- Contribute to updates to our Protected Work Method Statements
- Support transport compliance, fatigue management and Chain of Responsibility requirements
- If truck licenced, you will also occasionally assist with relief driving and operational support when required
What you’ll need
- Strong background in transport, delivery or driver operations
- Practical understanding of what drivers experience day to day
- Confidence coordinating people,
vehicles and competing priorities
- Good communication skills with drivers, customers and internal teams
- Strong organisation and problem-solving capability
- Comfortable working across the office, yard and customer sites
- A strong safety and compliance mindset
- Experience of the liquid waste industry or portable toilets (or both) would be a plus, as would having a truck licence and forklift tickets.
What sets you apart
- You can plan routes based on reality, not just what looks efficient on paper
- You build trust with drivers rather than simply directing them
- You stay calm when deliveries, vehicles or schedules don’t go to plan
- You communicate confidently with customers and internal teams
- You take ownership and follow through on issues
- You’re ready to build a long-term career in transport leadership
The reality of the role
Every day will be focused on planning delivery runs and coordinating drivers. Some days may involve resolving vehicle issues, attending difficult customer sites, arranging maintenance, supporting the yard team or helping a new driver understand the operation.
By the three-to-six-month stage, you should be confidently managing daily runs, fleet maintenance, driver support and customer site requirements.
The right person will be practical, organised and comfortable taking responsibility.
