Astrea Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Senior Utility Locator to join our utilities team in North Ryde, NSW. This is a full-time position that plays a critical role in our construction and surveying operations. As a Senior Utility Locator, you will be responsible for identifying and mapping underground utilities on construction sites, ensuring the safety of workers and the integrity of infrastructure projects. This position offers the opportunity to lead utility location operations, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the successful delivery of major construction and infrastructure projects across New South Wales.

Key responsibilities

- Locating, identifying and mapping underground utilities including water, gas, electricity, telecommunications and sewerage lines.
- Operating specialist utility detection equipment and technology to accurately pinpoint utility locations
- Preparing detailed utility location plans and reports for project teams and stakeholders
- Conducting site investigations and assessments to identify potential utility risks and hazards
- Liaising with utility service providers, contractors and project managers to coordinate utility locating activities
- Maintaining accurate records and documentation of all utility locations and findings
- Mentoring and supervising junior utility locators and support staff
- Ensuring compliance with relevant safety standards, regulations and industry best practices
- Identifying process improvements and contributing to the development of company procedures and protocols
- Attending site meetings and providing technical expertise on utility-related matters

What we're looking for

- Minimum 5+ years' experience as a utility locator in the construction and surveying industry
- Demonstrated expertise in operating electronic utility detection equipment and underground locating technology
- In-depth knowledge of Australian utility standards, codes of practice and relevant legislation including AS 4871-2015




- Strong understanding of utility infrastructure systems including water, gas, electricity, telecommunications and sewerage networks
- Proven ability to read and interpret technical drawings, plans and specifications
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to various sites across New South Wales
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality
- Certification or qualifications in utility locating, surveying or related field (highly desirable)
- Leadership experience and ability to mentor and supervise junior staff
- Commitment to workplace health and safety principles and procedures
