Reporting to the Assistant Director, Employee Relations, the Senior Human Resources Advisor, Employee Relations plays a key role in providing support and expert advice on a range of complex human resources (HR) related matters including performance and conduct, enterprise bargaining,reviews of employment related actions, employment entitlements and conditions, and policy review and development.
The role is also responsible for fostering a high-performance culture across the AER by supporting career and professional development planning for individuals.
The key duties of the position include:
- Support the AER with workplace change, including establishing the HR capability, functions and services required of the Employee Relations team post-legal separation.
- Assisting with the enterprise bargaining process, including supporting claims development, drafting of a new agreement, and all other tasks required to support this process.
- Provide high-level advice and case management of employee relations matters, including highly sensitive and complex matters. This includes supporting managers with informal and formal performance management, as well as supporting preliminary assessments and formal investigations.
- Partner with the AER Capability team and AER managers to identify and deliver on opportunities to support individual employees’ professional development.
- Provide expert advice to the AER on interpreting and applying the Enterprise Agreement and HR related legislation.
- Develop managers capabilities and organisational understanding of employee relations and performance policies, practices and procedures across the organisation.
- Review,
develop and maintain people policies, industrial instruments and procedures to support the Enterprise Agreement and the AER.
- Undertake the Secretariat function for the AER’s Employee Council.
- Support the delivery of allocated projects and activities as required.
- Contribute to a robust values-based AER community by fostering the AER archetypes.

- Security clearance – our successful candidate is required to hold, or have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the required level

Getting to know the Australian Energy Regulator
The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) works to make energy consumers better off, now and in the future. We focus on ensuring a secure, reliable and affordable energy future for Australia as it transitions to net zero emissions. We regulate electricity networks and covered gas pipelines, in all jurisdictions except Western Australia. We set the amount of revenue that network businesses can recover from customers for using these networks. From 1 July 2026, the AER structurally separated from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and transitioned into a standalone non-corporate Commonwealth entity with its own accountable authority, staff and budgetary control. The separation of the AER from the ACCC is a significant regulatory reform aimed at improving the governance and operational autonomy of the AER.
