Whitsunday Regional Council is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Coordinator Strategic Finance to join our Financial Services team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled accounting professional to play a pivotal role in Council's financial sustainability, statutory reporting, budgeting, governance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The Role

As a trusted financial professional, you will be responsible for ensuring Council's financial systems, reporting processes, and accounting practices meet legislative and compliance requirements while supporting informed decision-making across the organisation.

Key responsibilities include:

- Assisting in the preparation, management, and reporting of Council's annual budget and long-term financial plans.
- Coordinating the preparation of Council's Audited Financial Statements and statutory reporting obligations.
- Maintaining and improving Council's accounting structures, financial systems, and internal controls.
- Providing specialist accounting advice to managers, executives, government agencies, auditors, and other stakeholders.
- Partnering with business units to support operational and strategic decision-making.
- Monitoring and implementing changes to Australian Accounting Standards and Local Government legislation.
- Leading continuous improvement initiatives to enhance financial processes, systems, and reporting capability.
- Preparing high-quality reports, policies, and recommendations that support sound governance and decision-making.
- Supporting and mentoring employees while promoting Council's Corporate Values, Behaviours,



and commitment to workplace health and safety.

About you

You are a motivated and collaborative finance professional who combines strong technical accounting expertise with excellent stakeholder engagement skills. You can analyse complex financial information, identify opportunities for improvement, and communicate effectively with both financial and non-financial audiences.

Essential

- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- CPA or CA qualifications (or substantial progress towards completion).
- Demonstrated experience in financial accounting, budget management, and statutory reporting.
- Solid knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and relevant legislative requirements.
- Experience developing and improving financial systems, controls, and business processes.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- A commitment to customer service, continuous improvement, and collaborative teamwork.
