Merivale Farms is seeking a reliable and mechanically minded Maintenance & Farm Hand to join our team at our Bell, Queensland property.
This is a hands‑on role responsible for carrying out general maintenance and repairs across the farm while also assisting with day‑to‑day farm operations. You'll be responsible for maintaining farm equipment, machinery, buildings, fencing, water systems, and infrastructure to ensure the property operates safely and efficiently.
The role includes basic servicing of farm machinery and equipment, such as oil and filter changes, greasing, routine inspections, replacing worn parts, and identifying maintenance issues before they become major problems. Trade qualifications are not required; however, applicants should be confident using tools, carrying out general repairs, and have positive mechanical aptitude.
As part of a mixed farming operation, you'll also assist with livestock and general farm work as required, including work within our piggery and cattle operation. This is a varied role where no two days are the same, making it ideal for someone who enjoys practical work, problem‑solving, and being involved in all aspects of farm life.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out scheduled and reactive maintenance on farm machinery, equipment, buildings, and infrastructure.
- Perform basic servicing of machinery, including oil and filter changes, greasing, and routine inspections.
- Repair and maintain fencing, livestock yards, water systems, sheds, feed systems, and other farm infrastructure.
- Undertake welding, basic fabrication, carpentry, plumbing, and general repairs as required.
- Operate tractors, loaders, and other farm machinery safely.
- Assist with livestock handling and general farm duties across both the piggery and cattle operation when required.
- Identify maintenance issues and implement practical solutions to minimise downtime.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment.
- Follow all workplace health and safety, animal welfare, and biosecurity requirements.
About You
- Previous experience in a farm, maintenance, mechanical, or similar hands‑on role.
- Mechanically minded with the ability to perform basic machinery servicing and repairs.
- Experience with welding, fabrication, and general maintenance is highly regarded.
- Able to use a range of hand and power tools confidently.
- Experience operating tractors or other farm machinery is an advantage.
- Physically fit and capable of working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and a willingness to learn.
- Current driver's licence and full Australian work rights.
Hours
- Monday to Thursday: 7:30 am – 4:00 pm
- Morning tea break: 15 minutes
- Lunch break: 30 minutes
- Every third weekend: Approximately 3 hours on Saturday and Sunday for essential livestock feeding and farm duties.
