About the InstituteLocated on the lands of the Bidiagal Clan of the Dharawal Nation (Randwick, NSW), Black Dog Institute is the only Medical Research Institute in Australia to investigate mental health across the lifespan, our aim is to create a mentally healthier world for everyone. Emphasising a devoted focus to into suicide prevention, digital mental health, a workplace mental health, we undertake a unique ‘translational’ research approach that allows us to turn our world-class findings into new treatments, prevention strategies, clinical services, educational programs, and e-health products. We join the dots by connecting research answers, expert knowledge, and the voices of lived experience to deliver solutions that impact and boost the health care system for patients and practitioners alike. Our work is used to drive evidence informed change across the rapidly expanding mental health sector and sets the foundations for a brighter and healthier future for all.

- Hybrid work, 1-2 days per week in office (choose your days, consistent team collaboration days where possible)
- 35 hour work week,flexible hours agreements & 9-day fortnights
- Salary Packaging: $15,900.00 of your base salary tax free & up to $2650.00 meal & entertainment

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Research Development Manager to lead strategic research funding initiatives and strengthen research excellence across the Institute. This is an exciting opportunity to influence funding strategy, support researchers to secure competitive grants, and contribute to the growth and impact of a world-leading mental health research organisation.As the Research Development Manager,



you will lead the Institute's research development program, overseeing the end-to-end grant development process while partnering closely with researchers, executive leaders, and external stakeholders to grow research funding and capability

Duties & Responsibilities

- Developing and implementing strategic funding plans aligned with research priorities and funding opportunities.
- Providing expert advice on major funding schemes including NHMRC, MRFF and ARC opportunities.
- Leading grant development, review, compliance and submission processes across the Institute.
- Managing and developing a high-performing team while fostering a collaborative, values-driven culture.
- Designing and delivering workshops, training programs and peer review initiatives that build researcher capability.
- Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including university partners and funding bodies.
- Monitoring performance, analysing funding outcomes and providing strategic recommendations to senior leadership.

Selection Criteria

- A relevant degree or an equivalent combination of knowledge, qualifications and professional experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in research administration and grant development, particularly with nationally competitive funding schemes.
- Strong experience interpreting funding guidelines, developing applications, reviewing proposals and advising on budgets and project design.
- Experience delivering research development initiatives such as workshops, seminars and capability-building programs.
- Outstanding communication, relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A strong understanding of research metrics,



academic track records and research impact.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.

Experience within a research-intensive, higher education, health, or not-for-profit environment will be highly regarded. Experience with tools such as SciVal, Scopus, Web of Science or PubMed is also desirable
