The Opportunity
Unique opportunity for a strategic finance leader who is passionate about making a meaningful difference while ensuring the long‑term sustainability and growth of a highly respected community organisation.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the CFO provides executive leadership across all financial operations, governance, compliance, risk management, and strategic planning functions. As a key member of the Executive Management Team, you will partner with the Board, Finance, Audit and Risk Committee, Executive Team, and program leaders to drive financial performance and organisational success.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead financial strategy, planning, and overall organisational financial management and reporting
- Provide culturally informed, strategic financial advice to the Board, Executive Management Team and management
- Oversee budget, forecast, and long‑term financial planning across diverse funding streams
- Strengthen financial governance, compliance, and internal control frameworks
- Deliver clear, accessible financial reporting and insights to support decision‑making
- Provide executive oversight of all funding, grants, and contractual arrangements,
including compliance, acquittals, reporting obligations, and financial performance against approved budgets
- Identify and report financial, operational, and funding‑related risks, including under/over‑spend, delivery risks, and non‑compliance for management follow‑up
- Lead and develop the finance function while building financial capability across multidisciplinary teams and program areas
What You’ll Bring
- CPA/CA qualified with tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting, or related
- Senior finance leadership experience (CFO, Head of Finance, or equivalent)
- Proven experience working with Board and Executive teams
- Robust expertise across financial strategy, governance, compliance, and risk
- Experience working in complex funding environments (health, NFP, or government highly regarded)
- Ability to translate complex financial information into clear business insights
- Experience in Aboriginal Community Controlled or community‑based organisations highly regarded
- High‑level communication and relationship‑building capabilities
- A valid Blue Card / Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain (mandatory)
- A current National Police Check or willingness to obtain (mandatory)
