About the business and the role

Ambient Services Group is an all-in-one commercial asset maintenance provider serving metropolitan Sydney. We work behind the scenes on some of the city's biggest buildings, offering everything from long-term asset management to emergency spot repairs.

Due to ongoing company growth, we are seeking a HVAC Project Engineer to join our HVAC Construction & Facility Services Division.

Job tasks and responsibilities

Design & Engineering

- Prepare and coordinate Mechanical Services technical submissions for client, consultant and authority approval.

- Review contract documentation and raise Design RFI's where clarification or additional design information is required.

- Create, maintain and collate equipment schedules, including mechanical plant, airside, waterside and controls equipment.

- Perform equipment static pressure calculations and verify equipment selections against the design intent and project requirements.

- Review drawings, specifications and design documentation to ensure compliance with Australian Standards, NCC requirements, project specifications and client requirements.

- Assist with equipment selections, value engineering initiatives and technical reviews to improve constructability, programme outcomes and commercial performance.

- Support the Senior Mechanical Engineer by undertaking engineering calculations, design coordination and technical documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

- Ensure engineering documentation is accurate, coordinated and issued in accordance with project programmes and quality standards.

Project Support & Delivery

- Assist the Project Team in interpreting design documentation and understanding its impact on contractual and commercial obligations.

- Provide ongoing design engineering and technical support to Project Managers, site teams, and service teams, including responses to RFIs and design clarifications.





- Forecast engineering workload for ongoing projects and provide management with feedback regarding capacity, feasibility, and resourcing for upcoming works.

- Identify, manage, and mitigate technical and operational risks to projects, with a focus on constructability, compliance, and cost control.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

- Represent Ambient Services Group in meetings with clients, consultants, builders, and project stakeholders as required.

- Maintain skilled and collaborative working relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors.

- Provide technical advice and engineering support throughout the project lifecycle to ensure successful project delivery.

Estimating & Commercial Support

- Provide reasonable quoting and estimating relief to the Estimator as required, including technical input into pricing, scope reviews, and value engineering exercises.

- Support tender and variation pricing by reviewing scopes, specifications, and drawings to identify risk and opportunities.

Compliance & Documentation

- Maintain accurate service records, job sheets, and reports using Simpro.

- Ensure all work complies with Australian Standards, WHS regulations, and company policies.

- Participate in site inductions and adhere to all safety protocols.

Supplier & Market Engagement

- Assess and evaluate supplier and subcontractor offerings for technical suitability, compliance, lead times, and overall value.





- Review and recommend alternative technical solutions where appropriate to improve constructability, performance, or commercial outcomes.

Quality, Risk & Continuous Improvement

- Minimise operational risk and enhance documentation quality through thorough engineering reviews, coordination, and proactive issue identification.

- Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering standards, templates, and internal processes in line with Ambient Services Group's long-term business objectives.

Skills and experience

- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

- 2-5+ years' experience in a Mechanical HVAC Project Engineering, Design Engineering or Building Services role.

- Strong understanding of Australian Standards, the NCC and mechanical building services design principles.

- Experience interpreting mechanical services drawings, specifications and contract documentation.

- Ability to prepare technical submissions, equipment schedules, design RFIs and engineering documentation.

- Experience performing equipment selections, static pressure calculations and technical reviews.

- Commercial awareness with the ability to identify project risks, value engineering opportunities and practical construction solutions.

- Strong communication skills with the confidence to liaise with clients, consultants, builders and subcontractors.

- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office, with experience using Bluebeam or similar construction software viewed favourably.

- A proactive attitude with a genuine desire to learn, develop and progress your engineering career.

- Current Australian Driver Licence.
