As Kitchen Hand, you will be a member of the QKitchen (and catering) Team, based at the QHome Accommodation site and a part of the Housing and Homelessness Service Stream. You will assist Chefs with food preparation, provision of nutritious meals to residents of QHome and help fill catering orders. In line with directions you will receive deliveries, conduct food deliveries, stock supplies and keep the kitchen, equipment and associated areas clean, up to required hygiene standards and support the smooth and safe operation of the kitchen.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation, cooking and provision of nutritious, high-quality meals for QHome residents and catering orders.
- Adhere to the use of recommended cleaning products (and established hygiene practices).
- Maintain the cleanliness of kitchen, dining room and food serving areas, surfaces and kitchen equipment.
- Comply with food safety requirements, safe work practices and the environmentally sound disposal of food and kitchen waste.
- Assist with maintaining inventory control including receiving deliveries, advising of stock levels and minimising food wastage.
- Support the dietary requirements and food related cultural needs of QHome residents and catering orders by assisting with the production of allergen-sensitive or tailored meals.
- Keep accurate records, ensure incoming goods are fresh and secure.
- Identify and report hazards and respond to risks where it is safe to do so.
- Maintain a friendly and welcoming customer service approach for internal and external customers.
What we are looking for
- Evidence of qualifications or enrolment (if claimed)
- Satisfactory outcome of a current (less than 3 months old) National Criminal History Check
- Blue Card (QLD working with children card)
- QLD driver’s licence ‘Class C’ or interstate equivalent
- Out of hours work may be required
- Ability and willingness to undertake local area / regional travel
- First Aid certificate and CPR certificate.
Desired Skills & Experience
- Minimum Certificate II in Cookery or equivalent or relevant experience
- Understanding of safe food handling practices and record of adhering to workplace health and safety requirements.
- Good teamwork and customer service skills and the ability (and willingness) to follow directions.
- Basic numeracy, IT and communication (written and verbal) skills.
- An understanding of community services and challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness or crisis.
- Commitment to diversity, inclusion, reconciliation and closing the gapobjectivesand experience working with First Nations people,organisationsandcommunities..
