Senior Workplace Health & Safety Advisor

The Role
As a trusted Senior Workplace Health & Safety Advisor you will lead and coordinate the development and implementation of workplace health and safety initiatives, programs and systems that support the department's strategic objectives. You will work closely with managers, supervisors and workers to identify and manage risks, build safety capability and provide practical, evidence-based solutions to complex workplace health and safety challenges.

Key responsibilities include:

- Providing specialist WHS advice and guidance on legislation, policies, procedures and complex safety matters.
- Leading and supporting workplace inspections, audits and assurance activities.
- Coaching managers through incident investigations and recommending effective corrective and preventative actions.
- Developing and reviewing WHS policies, procedures, plans and safe work practices.
- Analysing WHS data and trends to inform decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Designing and delivering training and awareness programs that build organisational capability and strengthen safety culture.




- Supporting emergency preparedness activities and collaborating with stakeholders to improve safety performance across the department.

About You

- There are no mandatory requirements for this role however, extensive knowledge and practical experience in a safety and wellbeing environment would be highly desirable.
- Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety, Auditing, Investigations, Training and Assessment, Project Management, Emergency Management, Fire Safety and Rehabilitation and Return to work would be highly regarded.
- An extensive breadth of understanding of safety management systems and standards, diverse workplace hazard identification and risk management strategies and their application in a complex diverse setting is also highly desired.
- Highly developed leadership and management skills, high level training facilitation skills and highly effective written and oral communication skills are also highly desired.
