THE ROLE

As Senior Legal Advisor in the Care leaver claims team, you will be required to, with minimal supervision, work independently and with other members of the team to provide timely legal advice and representation for key stakeholders that is strategic and practical. Your advice must be explicit, accurate and outcomes-focused.

This role will focus on leading special projects to support the strategic management of civil claims relating to alleged historical institutional abuse and personal injury matters. The special projects may relate to policy, practice and process related to civil claims. It may also include advising on a broad range of legal issues, statutory interpretation and administrative law matters. Subject to business need, you will also manage sensitive litigation matters such as personal injury matters and general civil litigation claims in the portfolio of families and children and disability.

The role is also key in supporting less experienced staff, particularly in relation to the special projects.

Accountabilities Include

- Provide,



with minimal supervision, authoritative advice on complex legal and policy issues and provide high level briefings and correspondence.
- Prepare briefs and instruct counsel and contracted solicitors of the State Government Legal Services Panel in complex and sensitive matters.
- Collaborate with departmental colleagues to deliver high quality client focused legal services in relation to complex and sensitive matters
