As our business continues to grow, we are looking for an enthusiastic Bushfire Consultant to join our team based in Brisbane. This role is ideally suited to a recent graduate looking to build a rewarding career in bushfire planning and risk management. However, we welcome applications from candidates at all experience levels and at all capacities (part time/casual considered). Comprehensive on-the-job training and mentoring will be provided, remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, and we offer flexible working arrangements, including the opportunity to work from home, to support a healthy work-life balance.
We are looking for someone who is motivated, eager to learn, shows initiative, and shares our passion for helping create safer communities. While prior bushfire experience is beneficial, it is not essential - we value attitude and a willingness to learn just as much as experience.
Role Description
This is a full-time position based in Brisbane, Queensland (South East Queensland), with remote working required initially (work from home).
As a Bushfire Consultant, you will assist in developing, implementing and evaluating effective bushfire risk management strategies across a broad range of industries, land uses and developments. You will work closely with clients, local governments and government agencies to provide practical advice that meets legislative requirements and industry best practice.
- Undertake bushfire site assessments.
- Conduct botanical surveys of vegetation (higher level assessments).
- Prepare Bushfire Management Plans (BMPs).
- Prepare Bushfire Hazard Assessments (BHA's).
- Prepare Bushfire Risk Assessments.
- Liaise with clients, local councils and other stakeholders.
- Research and interpret relevant legislation, planning policies, standards and guidelines.
- Manage multiple projects while delivering high-quality outcomes within agreed timeframes.
Qualifications and Experience
- A degree in Environmental Science, Earth Science, Fire Engineering, Emergency Management, Risk Management, Planning or a related discipline.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- High attention to detail.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- A positive attitude, initiative and a genuine willingness to learn.
- Knowledge of bushfire planning, bushfire behaviour or bushfire management.
- Experience preparing bushfire reports or risk assessments.
- Familiarity with bushfire legislation, standards and planning requirements.
- GIS experience.
- Understanding of bushfire operations or firefighting.
- Experience conducting botanical surveys.
