The Role: Lead Safe Production. Build Capability. Deliver Results.
Are you an experienced Open Cut Examiner and mining leader ready to make a visible impact? TerraCom is seeking a driven OCE / Supervisor to join the Mining Department at Blair Athol Coal Mine and play a key role in delivering safe, productive and compliant mining operations.
This is a hands on leadership role combining statutory OCE responsibilities with frontline supervision of people, equipment and daily mining activities. You will lead from the field, set clear expectations and help your crew deliver the plan while maintaining uncompromising standards in safety, compliance and operational performance.
The position offers the flexibility to live locally or DIDO on a 7 days on, 7 days off rotating day and night shift roster. Blair Athol is located around 20 minutes from the family friendly township of Clermont,
120 kilometres northwest of Emerald and within driving distance of nearby coastal communities.
The Opportunity
As the Open Cut Examiner, you will execute your statutory responsibilities and help ensure the mine operates within a safe workplace. As the Supervisor, you will coordinate personnel, equipment and resources to achieve safe production targets, equipment utilisation and productivity outcomes.
You will be a highly visible leader who builds trust, mentors operators and turns plans into disciplined field execution. Success in this role will come from sound judgement, strong communication, practical leadership and a genuine commitment to continuous improvement.
Responsibilities of the Role
Maintain compliance with legislative obligations, statutory requirements and the site Safety and Health Management System.
Perform Open Cut Examiner responsibilities in accordance with the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 and the Coal Mining Safety and Health Regulation 2017.
Plan, monitor and coordinate personnel, equipment and resources to achieve site targets and schedules.
Lead, coach and mentor operators to deliver the mining plan and strengthen a positive, accountable team culture.
Monitor equipment utilisation, productivity and mining performance, taking timely action where results fall below target.
Drive positive safety behaviours and reinforce consistent standards across the work area.
Participate in the development and review of risk assessments, PHMPs, SOPs, standards and procedures relating to mining activities.
Ensure compliance with risk management processes and documentation requirements to reduce unacceptable levels of risk.
Participate in incident investigations and clearly communicate findings and corrective actions to relevant stakeholders.
Maintain effective communication with Mining, Maintenance, Technical Services and other site teams to support coordinated execution.
Identify practical opportunities to improve safety, productivity, equipment performance and operational efficiency.
Ensure all work is completed in line with company policies, procedures and site expectations.
About You
You are a confident and practical mining leader who combines strong statutory knowledge with the ability to motivate people and deliver results. You remain calm under pressure, communicate clearly and lead by example in a fast paced open cut environment.
You will bring:
- A current Queensland Open Cut Examiner qualification.
- Queensland Mine Supervisor competencies, including S1, S2 and S3.
- Lead Investigator training, such as ICAM.
- A minimum of five years experience in open cut mining, including experience in a supervisory position.Extensive knowledge of mining practices, statutory obligations and Queensland coal mining legislation.
- A robust commitment to safe production and disciplined operational execution.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and develop people to achieve outstanding outcomes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, sound computer literacy and practical problem solving capability.
- The resilience and adaptability to perform effectively in a fast paced and challenging operating environment.
