Banana Shire Emergency Accommodation and Support Centre Inc. (Banana Shire Support Centre, BSEASC, BSSC) is a Registered Provider under the State Housing Act 2003 and a provider of services through funding from the Department of Housing, Local Government, Planning and Public Works.
BSSC also delivers the No Interest Loans Scheme (NILS) , accessed through the Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand and the National Australia Bank and undertakes delivery of emergency financial relief to assist vulnerable Queenslanders experiencing immediate financial hardship and participates in the Oz Harvest food rescue program.
The primary purpose of this position is to support families, couples and single people to access short term temporary accommodation (including motels) and proactively assist to transition to secure housing. Duties include the provision of information, advice, referral, advocacy and short-term case planning and management.
The secondary component of the role is to assist in the provision of tenancy management services for the crisis accommodation properties managed by the Centre.
Key responsibilities
- Completing intake assessments of families, couples and single people who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness.
- Securing short term accommodation (including motels).
- Provide initial and ongoing assessment of participant needs, including risk assessment and safety planning as needed.
- Provide services in ways that maximise client capacity for independent living.
- Provide culturally sensitive support that is proactive, reliable, and practical in a manner that is respectful of the dignity and privacy of individuals.
- Advocate for and assist participants to access specialist services as part of the case management services provided.
- Assist to identify issues and setting goals with tasks that are mutually agreed as achievable.
- Maintain client data in accordance with Queensland Government and organisational requirements.
- Ensure CAP housing tenant intake is conducted in a non-discriminatory and transparent manner.
- Manage CAP housing tenancy agreements and RTA leases as applicable.
- Conduct routine property inspections and condition reporting as required.

C Class license
Current Police criminal history check
Desirable:
Qualifications commencing from Certificate IV in Community Services or relevant experience in community services may be considered
Planning, organisation, administration skills
Good verbal and written skills
