Lead human-centred design across complex enterprise technology and operational environments.
At a glance
- Shape UX strategy across a major technology portfolio
- Lead vendor-based designers while remaining hands-on
- Permanent role with a 10% short-term incentive
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to lead and shape user experience across a major Australian organisation undergoing significant technology modernisation.
Working across a broad portfolio of operational, field-based and corporate technology initiatives, you will help senior leaders understand user needs, shape projects and improve how employees interact with systems and processes.
This is not a traditional digital agency or consumer-product design role. The work involves complex enterprise environments, operational users, legacy systems, multiple stakeholders and initiatives that require thoughtful discovery before technology decisions are made.
You will lead UX activity from early-stage research and journey mapping through to design, prototyping and delivery guidance. You will also manage an established vendor relationship and allocate work across a flexible team of UX practitioners.
The Role
You will:
- Bring a strategic UX perspective to technology and process initiatives
- Partner with senior business and technology leaders
- Lead user research, discovery and journey-mapping activities
- Conduct day-in-the-life research with operational and field employees
- Understand how users interact across multiple systems and processes
- Shape initiatives before they enter formal delivery
- Develop concepts, prototypes and design recommendations
- Review interface changes arising from technology and security upgrades
- Manage and allocate work across vendor-based UX resources
- Work closely with Product, Technology, Change and Process teams
- Establish more consistent human-centred design practices
- Present recommendations and challenge assumptions at senior levels
About You
You are an experienced enterprise UX, product design or service design practitioner who can operate strategically while remaining comfortable undertaking hands-on work.
You will bring:
- Strong experience within a large and complex organisation
- Advanced user research and journey-mapping capability
- Experience working across enterprise platforms and operational processes
- Evidence of taking work from discovery through to delivered outcomes
- Strong facilitation, communication and stakeholder-management skills
- Confidence engaging with General Managers and senior technology leaders
- Experience shaping ambiguous problems and defining practical next steps
- The ability to lead and coordinate external designers or delivery partners
- Strong prototyping and design capability
- A pragmatic and commercially aware approach
Experience in banking, government, transport, telecommunications, infrastructure, utilities or another regulated workplace will be highly regarded.
Candidates whose experience has been primarily within digital agencies or focused exclusively on consumer-facing visual design are unlikely to be aligned to the role.
The Offer
The anticipated remuneration is approximately $185,000 inclusive of superannuation, with some flexibility for an exceptional candidate. A 10% short-term incentive is provided in addition to fixed remuneration.
