NEACH is strengthening its estimating capability and is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Steel Estimator to lead complex structural steel and SMP tenders.
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will independently manage the estimating process from initial opportunity review through to tender submission, post-tender clarification and project handover.
You will work closely with the Commercial, Operations, Project Delivery and Production teams to ensure every estimate is accurate, competitive, properly risk-assessed and operationally deliverable.
This is a permanent, full-time, office-based role at NEACH’s Noosaville facility. Standard office hours are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently lead the preparation of complex structural steel and SMP tenders
- Complete detailed take-offs and develop material, labour, subcontractor and project cost estimates
- Review drawings, specifications, programmes and tender documentation
- Identify technical, commercial, contractual and delivery risks
- Prepare supplier and subcontractor RFQs and evaluate quotation coverage
- Develop tender qualifications, exclusions, assumptions and pricing recommendations
- Coordinate internal tender reviews and prepare complete tender submissions
- Manage post-tender clarifications and pricing revisions
- Lead the estimating component of project handovers
- Review estimate-to-actual performance and maintain estimating benchmarks
- Improve estimating systems, templates, databases and processes

About You
You are an experienced structural steel or SMP estimator who can independently manage complex tenders and provide commercially sound recommendations.
You understand how structural steel is fabricated, coated, transported and installed. You can convert drawings, specifications,
supplier pricing and delivery assumptions into a complete and defensible estimate.
You will ideally bring:
- Substantial structural steel, fabrication or SMP estimating experience, typically seven or more years, or equivalent demonstrated capability
- Experience independently pricing complex structural steel packages, ideally valued at $5 million or more
- Strong understanding of fabrication labour, materials, welding, coatings, transport and installation cost drivers
- Advanced drawing interpretation and quantity take-off capability
- Experience preparing and assessing supplier and subcontractor RFQs
- Robust commercial judgement and the ability to identify tender and contractual risk
- Advanced Excel capability and experience using estimating or project management systems
- Strong written communication, particularly tender qualifications, exclusions and commercial correspondence
- The ability to manage concurrent tenders and fixed submission deadlines
- A trade, engineering, construction management or quantity surveying qualification, or equivalent industry experience
Experience with Tekla PowerFab or EPM, WorkBench, AS/NZS 5131 CC3, AS/NZS 1554, MRTS78 or Tier 1 infrastructure projects will be well regarded but is not essential.
