Are you the type of person who spots a risk before anyone else does, keeps systems running smoothly, and genuinely enjoys improving the way things are done?
We're looking for a Safety & Systems Officer to take ownership of workplace health and safety and our Integrated Management System (IMS) across ACT Steelworks and Illawarra Steelworks. This is a hands-on role that combines site-based safety leadership with systems management, compliance, training, auditing, and continuous improvement.
You'll work closely with our workshop, site, project, and management teams to ensure our people go home safely every day while helping maintain the high standards our business is known for.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading WHS management across workshops, construction sites, and office operations.
- Maintaining and improving our Integrated Management System (IMS).
- Managing documentation including SWMS, permits, procedures, forms, and registers.
- Conducting workplace inspections, audits, toolbox talks, and safety interactions.
- Coordinating inductions, training, competency verification, and compliance records.
- Investigating incidents, hazards, and near misses, and driving corrective actions.
- Supporting ISO certification activities and external audits.
- Monitoring legislative compliance and implementing system improvements.
- Assisting with environmental and quality management initiatives.
- Promoting a proactive safety culture across all areas of the business.
What We're Looking For
- Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety (or equivalent)
- Experience in WHS, compliance, or IMS administration within construction, manufacturing, steel fabrication, or a similar industry
- Strong working knowledge of WHS legislation, Australian Standards, and Codes of Practice
- Experience with ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 management systems
- White Card and current driver's licence
- High attention to detail and strong documentation skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with workshop employees, site crews, supervisors, and managers
- A practical, solutions-focused approach to safety and compliance
