We are a data and AI consultancy delivering engineering and platform work for clients across financial services, retail, healthcare, and the public sector. This is a bespoke hands‑on role combined with technical leadership to support our fast growing Melbourne Engineering Team . You will spend most of your time designing and writing production data pipelines and platform components on Azure, Databricks, and Snowflake to ensure successful delivery. You would get to shape solution architecture, setting engineering standards, and guiding a small team of engineers across client engagements.

You would be a Senior Engineer in our Melbourne team and can manage your time comfortably between the keyboard and the whiteboard. You can scope a piece of work with a client in the morning, pair with a junior engineer on a tricky merge in the afternoon, and present an architecture decision to a stakeholder the next day.

What you will do

- Bring in 5+ years of experience in design, build, and productionisation of data pipelines and platforms on Azure, Databricks, and Snowflake with a good sense of end to end ownership.
- Help drive the technical direction of client engagements: data architecture, modelling approach, tooling choices, and the trade-offs behind them, documented clearly enough that the client can own it after we leave.
- Apply and uphold engineering standards across testing, CI/CD, security, and maintainability so that what we ship is reliable and the client's team can run it without us.
- Mentor and support a small team of engineers (typically 2 to 5), reviewing code and designs, supporting people, and lifting the technical bar for our deliverables.

- Work directly with client stakeholders to translate business problems into delivery plans, manage scope, and keep delivery on track.
- Support business development and scoping: technical discovery, effort estimation, and contributing to proposals and statements of work.

Tools and technology

- Azure: Data Factory, ADLS Gen2, Azure DevOps, Key Vault, Entra ID, Functions, networking and private endpoints.
- Databricks: Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Workflows, Delta Live Tables, medallion architecture, compute and cost management.
- Snowflake: RBAC and access policies, Snowpark, streams and tasks, agile tables, masking, warehouse cost optimisation.
- Software Engineering: dbt, Terraform or Bicep for infrastructure as code, Git-based CI/CD, data quality and test frameworks (for example dbt tests or Great Expectations), Python and SQL.

We favour open and well-supported tooling over heavy proprietary stacks where the choice is ours to make.

What we are looking for

- Strong hands‑on data engineering and analytics experience, with depth in Azure, Databricks, and Snowflake.
- A track record of shipping production data platforms, not just prototypes or migrations that stalled.
- Solid software engineering fundamentals: version control, modular and testable code,

automated testing, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
- A security‑aware default: you think about access control, secrets handling, data classification, and governance as part of the design, not after it.
- Expertise building maintainable systems which are easy to manage : clear documentation, sensible abstractions, and great documentation.
- The ability to lead delivery and people while staying hands‑on, and to communicate technical decisions clearly to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Comfort in a consulting environment: multiple clients, shifting context, and direct client contact.

Nice to have

- Relevant certifications (Azure Data Engineer, Databricks Data Engineer / Architect, SnowPro).
- Exposure to streaming or near‑real‑time data (Event Hubs, Kafka, Snowpipe Streaming, Structured Streaming).
- AI and ML enablement experience: feature pipelines, vector stores, or supporting GenAI workloads on the above platforms.
- Prior consulting or stakeholder management and technical delivery experience.
- Hybrid working - a mix of office and WFH.
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
- Opportunity for skilled growth and all rounded development.
- Access to cutting‑edge technology and tools.
- A diverse, collaborative, and inclusive team full of data professionals .
- A vibrant modern office environment.
- An opportunity to bond with other data professionals through our partnerships and events.
- Paid certification in related tools.
- Regular free team events (karaoke, mini golf, go karting, ping pong are just a few examples)
