About Us?

The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.

The Regional and Specialist team includes Integrated Specialist Services, Mental Health and Wellbeing Services, Primary Healthcare Services, Birthing and Early Childhood Services (South), and Child and Youth Services. Our purpose is to connect, guide, and empower teams and communities through culturally safe, transparent, and responsive ways.

About the Role?

The Early Learning Officer will work with Birthing in Our Community (BIOC) team, as well as children, families and IUIH staff, to expand opportunities for family contact with the Community Controlled Health sector and early childhood programs.

The role will establish relationships with mainstream early childhood education stakeholders, provide training and support in early childhood education to the BiOC North team and clinic staff and will primarily be located at BiOC North hub working within the BiOC program.

Your day to day duties may include:

- Provide advice and support to parents and families with young children regarding early childhood education.
- Coordinate and deliver early childhood activities to families and children e.g., playgroups, individual support, and explore alternative play-based learning options.




- Provide access to information about resources and career development that can support stakeholders including early childhood services to be better equipped to meet a relevant level of cultural capability.
- Participate in IUIH events relevant to early childhood, e.g. Deadly Kindies Open Days, Deadly Choices Community events.

About You?

To perform this role it is essential that the incumbent is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.

- Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
- Current Criminal History Check
- Cert III or above in Early Childhood Education or similar
- Current Working with Children’s Check (QLD Blue Card)
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate

Desirable, but not mandatory:

- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities
