The Opportunity

Strathfield Council is seeking a motivated Coordinator, Property & Commercial to join our team.

Reporting to the Manager, Engineering, you will lead Council's property and commercial function, overseeing leases, licences, commercial agreements and portfolio performance. You will provide advice to senior management, drive revenue opportunities, manage property & commercial risk, and ensure Council's assets are delivering maximum value for the community.

What You Will Be Doing





- Lead the performance of Council's property and commercial portfolio, focusing on revenue growth, asset utilisation and long-term sustainability.
- Manage leases, licences, permits and commercial agreements while ensuring legislative compliance and sound governance practices.
- Identify and implement commercial opportunities that optimise returns and deliver community outcomes.
- Provid meaningful property advice, feasibility assessments and business cases to support informed decision-making.
- Lead a small team and coordinating specialist consultants across property, legal and commercial matters.
- Preparing high-quality reports and recommendations for senior management and Councillors.
- Building strong relationships with tenants, stakeholders, contractors and community members to achieve positive outcomes.
- Tertiary qualifications relating to Property Economics and Property development and demonstrated substantial experience (7 years+) working within local government or a comparable public sector environment.
- Demonstrated extensive senior-level experience managing a property or commercial portfolio within a local government context or comparable public sector environment, including leases, licences, tenancy management and commercial agreements, with accountability for income performance, compliance and service delivery outcomes.
- Demonstrated extensive and proven experience in developing, reviewing and maintaining property-related policies, procedures and governance frameworks to strengthen transparency, consistency and accountability in decision-making.




- Proven experience leading and supervising staff, including direct management of operational teams, work allocation, performance management and capability development.
- Strong working knowledge of legislation, regulations and governance frameworks relevant to property and asset management in NSW local government, with demonstrated ability to apply requirements in operational decision-making.
- Demonstrated capability in commercial and financial management, including budgeting, income optimisation, expenditure control and cost-benefit analysis to support informed decision-making.
- Demonstrated experience in undertaking feasibility assessments and evaluating property and commercial opportunities to support financial and operational outcomes.
- High-level stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage tenants, contractors and internal stakeholders, resolve operational issues and deliver customer-focused outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare transparent and concise reports, briefings and recommendations for senior management and Councillors on operational performance, risks, compliance and commercial matters.
- Proven ability to exercise sound judgement in a delegated authority environment, prioritise competing demands, and resolve complex operational, property and commercial issues.
