Assistant Facilities Manager – Retail Shopping Centre

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be mentored by an experienced facilities professional while enjoying significant autonomy in the day-to-day operations of your assigned shopping centre. As part of a broader Facilities Management team, you will have access to ongoing training, professional development opportunities, and established systems and processes to support your success.
Over time, you will become a key custodian of the centre's maintenance, security, and safety functions. This role will utilise your ability to uphold high standards of presentation, maintain a safe and welcoming environment,
and build strong relationships with contractors, tenants, stakeholders, and customers.
Key Responsibilities
You will assist with:
- Maintaining the centre to a high standard of cleanliness, presentation, and maintenance.
- Managing multiple maintenance projects
- Ensuring plant and equipment are operating efficiently and maintained in good working order.
- Supporting compliance with insurance, workplace health and safety, and operational requirements.
- Coordinating and managing maintenance, cleaning, and security contractors.Ensuring contractors are appropriately inducted and compliant with site requirements.
- Monitoring and implementing initiatives to reduce electricity, water, and other service consumption.
- Assisting with the day-to-day operational management of the centre.
About You
You are a proactive and hands-on individual who can work autonomously and effectively manage competing priorities. You will have some exposure to facilities management, maintenance, building services, operations, or commercial property and be looking to further develop your career within the property industry.
Experience within a retail or shopping centre setting would be highly regarded but is not essential.
This prospect may suit:
- Someone looking to transition into management from a handyman, locksmith, carpenter, mechanical, or other maintenance role
- A part-qualified or qualified tradesperson seeking a long-term career in facilities management.
