The Role
The Counsellor Coordinator is a senior clinical leadership position responsible for coordinating the delivery of high-quality, trauma-informed counselling services for people impacted by sexual violence. Reporting to the Clinical Director, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the counselling team, providing clinical supervision, mentoring and professional support to counsellors while ensuring best-practice service delivery.
You will play a key role in developing counselling programs, contributing to quality improvement initiatives, policy development and service planning. Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you may maintain a small clinical caseload and provide trauma-informed counselling, crisis intervention and advocacy where required. The role also acts as the Emergency Contact for after-hours services, providing clinical consultation,
operational oversight and support to staff managing complex client presentations and critical incidents. Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, you will strengthen referral pathways, promote continuous improvement and ensure the delivery of safe, responsive and client-centred services.
Essential Criteria
- Bachelor or Master's qualification in Psychology, Social Work or Counselling from a recognised Australian university
- Demonstrated experience providing trauma-informed counselling to survivors of sexual violence, domestic and family violence, or complex trauma
- Previous experience providing clinical supervision, mentoring or leadership within a counselling or therapeutic service
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed, feminist and human rights-based practice frameworks
- Proven ability to provide sound clinical guidance and manage complex or high-risk client presentations
- Experience coordinating counselling services or contributing to service development and quality improvement
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and report writing skills
- Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team while maintaining a collaborative and supportive culture
- Experience developing or implementing policies, procedures and continuous improvement initiatives
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to balance leadership responsibilities and a clinical caseload
- Current ACT Working With Vulnerable People Registration (or ability to obtain)
- Current Australian Driver's Licence
- Ability to participate in after-hours on-call and emergency response services as required.
