The role provides day-to-day protective security support services across the organisation's national protective security office.

Job Description

The Security Advisor is responsible for delivering protective security support across a range of security disciplines. Reporting to the Senior Security Advisor, the role supports the maintenance of external security licences and accreditation's, assists with security governance activities, and contributes to incident response, reporting and policy management. This role operates within a dynamic Defence and Defence Industry environment and works closely with internal and external stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Provide subject matter expertise across one or more protective security disciplines, including security governance, personnel security, physical security, communications security, information security, and security education and awareness
- Perform duties of a Security Officer as defined under the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP)
- Assist the Senior Security Advisor in implementing security measures to maintain external security licences and accreditation's
- Support security administrative activities and operational tasks
- Assist with the preparation of incident and contact reports for submission to external agencies
- Contribute to audits, reviews and updates of internal security policies and procedures
- Assist with security budgeting activities and management of security-related expenditure within approved delegations





Education/Certifications required

- Certificate III or IV in Security Operations and completion of the Defence Security Officers Course, or other relevant qualifications

Knowledge/Skills required

- Current AGSVA Positive Vetting (PV) clearance
- Minimum of two years' experience within a Defence or Defence Industry environment is preferred
- Strong working knowledge of one or more protective security disciplines, such as personnel security clearances, physical security controls, visitor management and electronic security systems
- Working knowledge of, or the ability to quickly acquire, the Defence Security Principles Framework (DSPF), Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF), AGSVA clearance processes and security risk management
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office and security systems software
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to support stakeholder engagement and incident reporting
