Zoo-keeper Opportunity: Hobart Zoo and Aquarium

Are you passionate about wildlife, conservation, and animal care? Hobart Zoo and Aquarium is seeking a dedicated animal care professional to join our expanding team. This role is ideal for someone with hands‑on experience caring for animals and the confidence to engage visitors through education and conservation messaging.

Key Responsibilities:

Care for a range of species, with a focus on birds, native animals, and ungulates.

Maintain clean, safe, and well‑presented animal environments.

Prepare feeds, monitor animal health, and deliver enrichment activities that support animal wellbeing.

Assist with veterinary care, health checks, and ongoing animal observations.

Educate visitors about animal behaviour, conservation, and species preservation.

Work collaboratively with a team to support smooth, safe daily zoo operations

Required Qualifications & Skills:

Extensive experience working with animals, particularly birds, native species, and ungulates.

A genuine passion for wildlife conservation, animal welfare, and high‑quality animal care.

Strong communication skills and the ability to engage visitors of all ages.





Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

A positive attitude and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Desirable Qualifications:

Formal qualifications in Exhibited Animals, Zoology, Animal Science, or a related field.

Previous paid zookeeping or animal care experience.

First Aid and CPR certification.

Working With Vulnerable People registration.
