Spinifex Recruiting is seeking an experienced Traffic Engineering professional to join a well-established local government organisation in Northern NSW. This exciting opportunity offers the chance to influence transport planning, traffic management, and road safety outcomes across a rapidly growing regional community. Suitable candidates will be considered for appointment at either the JG7 Engineer - Infrastructure (Traffic) level or the JG8 Engineer - Traffic & Transport level, depending on your qualifications, skills, and experience.
About the Role
As part of Council's Roads and Stormwater Unit, you will be involved in the planning, assessment, development and delivery of traffic and transport solutions that support the region's growing infrastructure needs. Depending on your experience level, the role may also include leadership responsibilities, strategic planning, staff supervision, and program management.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement traffic and transport engineering solutions across the road network.
- Investigate and respond to traffic, transport and road safety matters raised by the community and stakeholders.
- Assess traffic impacts associated with development applications and infrastructure projects.
- Prepare technical reports, engineering assessments, and recommendations.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of transport policies, standards, and operational procedures.
- Assist with the planning and delivery of transport infrastructure programs including traffic facilities, pedestrian infrastructure, cycleways, and road safety improvements.
- Manage stakeholder relationships with government agencies, developers, consultants, contractors, and community groups.
- Support project delivery through procurement, contract administration, budgeting,
and grant funding activities.
- Provide skilled engineering advice across a wide range of traffic and transport matters.
- Lead transport programs, supervise staff, manage budgets, and work programs where appropriate to the appointment level.
About You
To be successful, you will possess:
- Bachelor of Civil Engineering or a related qualification eligible for membership with Engineers Australia.
- Current Class C Driver Licence.
- Experience in traffic and transport engineering, planning, or infrastructure delivery.
- Experience preparing technical reports and delivering engineering advice.
- Demonstrated project management, procurement, or contract management experience.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver quality outcomes within tight timeframes.
Highly Regarded
- Local Government experience.
- Experience assessing development applications and transport impacts.
- Knowledge of Austroads guidelines, Australian Standards, and relevant transport legislation.
- Road safety, active transport, and transport planning experience.
- Experience with traffic modelling or transport software such as SIDRA.
- Staff leadership, budget management, and strategic planning experience.
- Postgraduate qualifications in Traffic or Transport Engineering.
