About the role

Curtin University's School of Population Health is seeking a passionate and motivated Senior Research Officer (s50d) to support research that makes a meaningful difference for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Western Australia.

Working closely with the Academic Project Lead, you will provide high-level research and administrative support across a range of impactful projects. This includes coordinating project activities, managing research data, contributing to reports, publications and conference presentations, and supporting the successful delivery of research outcomes.

This is a unique opportunity to work with and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, contributing to research that promotes Aboriginal data sovereignty in health and is grounded in the principles of Aboriginal self-determination and genuine community engagement. Through this work, you will play an important role in advancing Curtin University's commitment to Reconciliation by supporting initiatives that strengthen outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Support the development and delivery of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander self-determined research by working collaboratively with Aboriginal communities, researchers and key stakeholders across Western Australia.
- Manage project activities, coordinate project deliverables and liaise with stakeholders and communities to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Promote and apply Aboriginal data sovereignty principles while supporting Aboriginal leadership throughout the research process.
- Analyse and interpret complex research data, preparing reports and presenting findings in culturally appropriate and accessible formats for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders and communities.
- Collate, synthesise and critically review research literature and other information to support project activities, publications and evidence-based decision-making.
- Keep abreast of emerging developments, best practice and evidence relating to Aboriginal health research, Aboriginal data sovereignty and community-led research methodologies.

Who we are looking for (selection criteria)

- A strong connection to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, cultures and ways of knowing, with an understanding of Aboriginal self-determination and community-led approaches to research.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of research methods, with the ability to apply discipline-specific knowledge, research techniques and protocols to support the delivery of high-quality research outcomes.
- The ability to build and maintain respectful relationships and communicate sensitively, diplomatically and confidentially with a diverse range of stakeholders, including within cross-cultural settings.
- Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to equity, inclusion, belonging and culturally safe practices within an Aboriginal health context.
- Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse research data, interpret findings and contribute to evidence-based outcomes.
- Highly developed written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and contribute to research reports,



publications and other research outputs.

Desirable

- Progress towards, or completion of, a relevant postgraduate qualification.
- Experience working within a tertiary education or research environment.
- Experience working in Aboriginal health, Aboriginal studies or a related community-focused research setting.

- As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role
