Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH) is a major metropolitan tertiary referral hospital and a principal provider of specialist healthcare. It remains one of the nation’s most respected hospitals, with a distinguished history serving the health needs of local, statewide, national and international communities.

The Public Health Unit (PHU) works to protect the health of the community by identifying, preventing, and responding to public health risks, including communicable diseases. The PHU also helps enforce public health legislation under the NSW Public Health Act 2010 to support the safety and wellbeing of the community.

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (Communicable Disease Surveillance) is a key member of a multidisciplinary team responsible for monitoring, investigating, and responding to notifiable conditions across Sydney Local Health District (SLHD). The role provides expert clinical advice and specialist support in communicable disease surveillance and will:

- Implement communicable diseases control strategies required under the NSW Public Health Act 2010,



and the NSW Health Communicable Disease Control Guidelines.
- Oversee the integrity of documentation related to investigations and data entered on the NSW Notifiable Conditions Information Management System (NCIMS).
- Provide leadership in the ongoing development of public health practice.
- Initiate and utilise findings of research in the provision of clinical services .
- Contribute to the development and delivery of education programs related to infectious diseases, immunisation and public health.
- Provide high-level support in public health incidents and emergencies.
- Participate in formal processes for the strategic and operational planning for the clinical service.

Ideal Candidate

- Has a current nursing registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in public health and holds approved postgraduate qualifications relevant to public health or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate.
- Understanding of surveillance of notifiable conditions, infectious diseases, immunisation and emergency management.
- Knowledge of valuable clinical practice, policies and procedures, especially in the area of public health.
- Can participate in a rotating after hours on call roster.
