Help build the platform behind Australia's green buildings.

At the Green Building Council of Australia, we're rebuilding our online Green Star platforms from the ground up - and we're looking for a Full Stack Developer to help make it happen.

Green Star Online is a custom, cloud-native, multi-criteria rating application replacing a hybrid of legacy and Power Platform systems with a single modern stack. It's a genuinely complex build: multi-source data, intricate rating logic,

and real weight behind every calculation. You'll own features end to end and see your work go live on a platform the industry relies on.

What makes this role different

You'll work in an AI-led development environment, using Claude Code and related tooling within GBCA's Governed Autonomy model to accelerate design, coding, testing and documentation - while keeping engineering standards high and staying accountable for what ships. If you're excited about doing your best engineering work alongside AI tooling rather than around it, this role is built for you.

What you'll do

- Play a hands-on, full stack role in the development and delivery of GBCA’s strategic digital projects, with a primary focus on rebuilding the Green Star platform (Green Star Online) as a custom, cloud-native, multi-criteria rating application.
- Work across front-end, back-end, data and integration layers to deliver robust, scalable and well-architected digital products.
- Work in an AI-led development environment, using Claude Code and related tooling within GBCA’s Governed Autonomy model to accelerate design, coding, testing and documentation while maintaining high engineering standards.
- Translate complex business and rating logic into reliable, high-performing and maintainable software.
- Collaborate closely with the Lead Full Stack Developer,

the Digital team and subject matter experts to deliver projects on time and to a high standard.
- Contribute to the quality and engineering practices of GBCA’s digital platforms.

The details

Full-time, 24-month fixed-term contract, with potential to become permanent after 12 months. You'll report to the Lead Full Stack Developer within GBCA's Digital team.

What you'll bring

- Minimum 3 years as a full stack developer delivering production-grade software
- Strong front-end skills (React; ideally Vite and TypeScript) and solid back-end development
- Robust SQL — designing, querying and optimising relational databases (ideally Azure SQL) across multiple data sources
- Experience with, or a strong willingness to learn, Microsoft Azure (Azure SQL, Azure Static Web Apps)
- Git/GitHub and CI/CD experience
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Claude / Claude Code), or a strong aptitude and willingness to adopt AI-led workflows
- Working knowledge of secure coding and common web/database security risks, including authentication and access control (ideally Microsoft Entra ID / Azure AD)
- Sound understanding of software architecture, testing and deployment practices
- The ability to work independently, take ownership and translate complex requirements into working software

Highly desirable: experience building complex logic-driven applications such as rating, scoring or calculation tools; contributing to legacy data migration; and awareness of accessibility standards (WCAG).

Qualifications

A degree or equivalent experience in computer science, software engineering, information systems or a related discipline. Relevant certifications in software development, cloud platforms or database technologies are a plus.
