ABOUT THE ROLES

Support Workers

At GCAHAC, our Support Workers work towards supporting vulnerable families who are at risk of further escalation in the child protection system because we believe that supporting families before a crisis, improves family resilience and reduces harm to children.

You will be a self-directed person passionate about working directly with families experiencing trauma and committed to providing the best level of care and support possible to our families.

Types of support workers:

Family Time Workers – Supervising contact visitations between a child or young person and family.



Workers are to closely monitor the interactions between all parties, which ensures the supervised contact visits are safe and positive for the children, young people and their family members.

Mentors – Mentors provide positive, consistent, ‘gender specific’ role models for young people who do not have supportive relationships with adults within their own families, schools and peer networks. Supports vary depending on each young person such as living skills, community outings, cultural activities and meeting goals.

Respite Workers – Respite workers provide overnight support to a child or young person where the carer/family are unable to support the child during this time.

Transport Workers – Transport Workers provide transporting services for children, young people, and their families/carers/guardians as required. Our transport services provide safe transports between locations to ensure a safe pick up and drop off for young people.

In Home Support – In home support workers provide adaptable in-home care to assist with domestic duties and caring for children and young people. This can include establishing and maintaining routines, cooking, cleaning, and support to maintain attendance at school.

Residential Care Youth Workers

At GCAHAC, our Residential Care Workers work towards creating home environments for children and young people with histories of complex trauma, abuse and neglect.





Our RCW’s work to ensure our young people are provided with a sense of family, support, opportunity to heal, engagement in culturally relevant activities, development of life and social skills, and ways to positively connect with others.

We are now looking for Casual Residential Care Workers (with up to full-time hours on offer) in the Western Sydney/Nepean and Blue Mountains Region to support children and young people in their journey.

These positions are required to work across 24/7 rotating rostered shifts, including sleepovers, weekends, and public holidays.

Minimum Cert III in Community Services or similar qualification for support workers, Minimum Cert IV in Community Services for Residential Care Youth Workers

Have an understanding of the impacts of intergenerational trauma and the effects this has on Aboriginal persons and their families.

Availability to work flexible working hours including shift work, weekends and awake and sleepover shifts.

Ability to demonstrate knowledge of trauma-informed care.

Current unrestricted drivers' licence and Reliable vehicle

Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.

Current Working with Children Check.

Willingness to obtain a national criminal history check.

Be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent

Current NDIS Workers' Screening clearance check

Experience in working with young people with complex trauma is ideal.

Experience in developing case plans/safety plans/behaviour support plans, case noting, and report writing is desirable.

Note - Aboriginality is a genuine occupational requirement and falls within the exceptions set out in section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW)
