Team Leader Specialist Workers for Children and Young People
Our team is made up of strong, caring, lion-hearted women. We turn up, we stay in the room, we stand by our clients and help them to rebuild their confidence and their lives as they recover from unimaginable trauma.
This is not a career step for the feint hearted. To join this legendary team, you will need to be an authentic, reliable, engaging team leader who has excellent communication skills. You will be passionate about social justice and have a deep, vested interest in supporting the young victims born into violence. You will have care deeply about ensuring that children are recognised in their own right as victims of domestic and family violence and you will be committed to continuous learning and innovation, and open to feedback and reflection.
Our History and Our Services
Jenny’s Place was founded in 1977 by a small group of very determined women who could see there was a real problem and wanted to do something about it.
These brave women worked tirelessly to establish life-saving shelter, financial resources and support services for women and children trapped in violent homes across the Newcastle region.
Almost 50 years later, Jenny’s Place has very deep roots across our community, having made a profound difference by saving countless lives and supported tens of thousands of women and children to escape and recover from the trauma and lasting impact of domestic/family violence and sexual abuse.
Jenny's Place provides tailored, client centric support and expert case management for women and also specifically for their children, including occupational and speech therapy, victim advocacy, safety planning, service referral and psychological counselling and support. We work closely with partner agencies to empower women and children to live a life free from violence break the cycle of Domestic and Family Violence through a step by step, strengths-based, client centred approach
Our wrap-around support and recovery services includedomestic violence early intervention and support for women and children, crisis and transitional accommodation, outreach support and community training and education. Our specialist Intake and Referral process ensures that women and children are supported as a family unit but also as specific individuals, and they are channelled to expert client-centred case managers adept at ensuring young clients and their mothers receive the appropriately co-joined, and independent support they need to recover and rebuild their hearts and minds. Our case managers work with each individual client to coordinate a range of comprehensive services to meet individual client needs.Our team leaders set the bar for behavioral attributes and standards. Specialist Worker for Children and Young People - Team Leader
Skills required:
Team Leader/Manager experience - 5+ years
5 years Children's Case Management experience in the Community Services sector, essential.
A humanist, with an innate understanding of the complex needs of young clients - and ability to support children independently, as well as alongside their mothers, as they seeking to rebuild their lives after escaping Domestic and Family Violence, and the correlating risk of homelessness.
An excellent listener, with natural counselling skills
An understanding of the community services sector and of local resources
Valuable Computer Skills
Leadership, Mediation and Negotiation skills
Advocacyand Time management
Being female is a genuine Occupational Qualification to offer appropriate service to women and children under section 31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act.
Employment will be subject to clearance of current Working with Children check and a National Police check.
Tertiary qualifications in Community Services, Social work or associated field; minimum Diploma level.
