About the Role
Prizm Engineering is seeking a motivated Electrical Drafting Cadet or Trainee to join our engineering team.
This is an entry-level opportunity for someone interested in developing a career in electrical drafting and design. You will work alongside experienced electrical engineers and designers, learning how real industrial and infrastructure projects are designed, documented and delivered.
The role may suit:
- A School leaver interested in electrical engineering or technical design.
- TAFE, diploma or university student seeking practical industry experience.
- An Electrical apprentice, electrician or electrical worker interested in moving from field-based work into drafting, design or engineering.
- Someone with CAD or technical drawing experience looking to specialise in electrical design.
Previous drafting experience is helpful but not essential. Structured training and mentoring will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
You will assist our engineers and designers with the preparation and management of electrical drawings and technical documentation. As your skills develop, you will be given increasing responsibility across a range of projects.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and modifying electrical drawings using AutoCAD and other design software.
- Producing electrical layouts, schematics, single-line diagrams, cable schedules and equipment drawings.
- Converting engineering sketches, site mark-ups and technical information into clear and accurate drawings.
- Assisting with drawing updates for new installations,
modifications and existing facilities.
- Maintaining drawing registers, revision records and project documentation.
- Participating in drawing checks and design reviews.
- Incorporating engineering and client comments into drawing revisions.
- Organising project files within the company’s document management systems.
- Working with engineers, designers and other team members to meet project deadlines.
- Learning and applying Prizm Engineering’s drafting standards and relevant Australian requirements.
- Physical ability and willingness to attend client sites and safely undertake site inspections as required.
About You
We are primarily looking for someone with the right attitude, attention to detail and interest in developing technical skills.
You may have:
- Completed, commenced or be considering studies in electrical engineering, engineering drafting, electrotechnology or a related field.
- Practical electrical experience gained through an apprenticeship, trade, work experience or personal projects.
- Some familiarity with AutoCAD or other drawing software, although training can be provided.
- A Basic understanding of electrical equipment, circuits or control systems.
- Strong attention to detail and an interest in producing accurate work.
- Good communication skills and the confidence to ask questions.
- The ability to organise your work and manage competing priorities.
- A Proactive approach and willingness to learn from experienced team members.
You do not need to meet every requirement. Candidates with practical electrical knowledge, technical aptitude or a genuine interest in electrical design are encouraged to apply.
What We Offer
- Structured training and mentoring from experienced electrical engineers and designers.
- Practical experience on real engineering projects.
- Exposure to industrial, mining, water, utilities and infrastructure projects.
- Training in electrical drafting, engineering documentation and project delivery processes.
- Support for relevant ongoing study and professional development.
- Opportunities to progress into electrical drafting, design or engineering roles.
- A cooperative team in which high standards are expected, strong performance is recognised, and a healthy work-life balance is valued.
Why Join Prizm Engineering?
At Prizm Engineering, you will be part of a practical engineering team delivering projects for critical operating facilities.
You will gain an understanding of how electrical systems are designed, documented, installed and maintained—not simply how to operate drafting software. The role provides a foundation for a long-term career in electrical drafting and design, with the opportunity to develop your capabilities and take on more complex work as your experience grows.
