Use your welfare expertise to help vulnerable cancer patients access treatment and navigate complex support systems at RBWH

About the role

The Welfare Officer delivers an advanced level of welfare service within Cancer Care Services at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. Working as an independent member of a multidisciplinary team, the role supports patients and their families and carers to navigate complex social, financial and practical challenges associated with cancer treatment, with a particular focus on vulnerable and high-risk patient groups.

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive welfare assessments, advocacy, support counselling and case management services to facilitate access to treatment and improve health outcomes. The role also works collaboratively with healthcare providers, community organisations and support services to address barriers to care, promote equitable access and support continuity of treatment for patients experiencing complex psychosocial circumstances.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

- Provide comprehensive welfare assessments, advocacy, support counselling and case management services to patients and families experiencing complex psychosocial and practical challenges.
- Apply advanced knowledge of welfare systems, financial assistance programs, travel and accommodation schemes, and community resources to support equitable access to cancer treatment.




- Develop strong collaborative relationships with healthcare providers, community organisations and external agencies to improve outcomes for vulnerable patient groups.
- Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team while providing advice and support on welfare-related matters and contributing to patient-centred care planning.
- Participate in quality improvement activities, student education, service development initiatives and ongoing professional development to enhance service delivery.
