Position Summary

The Workshop Engineering Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the engineering workshop, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the required quality standards. This role provides leadership to workshop personnel, coordinates maintenance and fabrication activities, manages resources, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to maximize productivity and equipment reliability.

Key Responsibilities

- Supervise and coordinate daily workshop operations, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and within agreed timeframes.
- Lead, mentor, and develop workshop technicians, tradespeople, apprentices, and support staff.
- Plan, schedule, and prioritize maintenance, repair, fabrication, and engineering activities.
- Allocate labour, equipment, and materials to optimize workflow and productivity.
- Ensure all work complies with company policies, engineering standards, quality requirements, and relevant legislation.
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with WHS/OHS regulations and safe work practices.
- Conduct toolbox talks, safety inspections, and incident investigations where required.
- Monitor workshop performance against key performance indicators (KPIs), including productivity, quality, cost, and delivery.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions to ensure accurate execution of work.
- Coordinate procurement of workshop materials, consumables, tools, and spare parts.
- Ensure workshop equipment is maintained, calibrated, and operating effectively.




- Support continuous improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing and best practice maintenance principles.
- Liaise with engineering, operations, procurement, and project teams to ensure efficient communication and project delivery.
- Prepare reports on workshop performance, maintenance activities, resource utilisation, and project progress.
- Manage contractor activities within the workshop where applicable.

Skills and Experience

- Trade qualification in Mechanical, Fabrication, or related engineering discipline.
- Proven experience supervising engineering workshop or maintenance teams.
- Strong knowledge of workshop operations, maintenance practices, fabrication, and engineering processes.
- Demonstrated leadership and people management skills.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Excellent planning, scheduling, and organisational skills.
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Sound knowledge of WHS/OHS legislation and safe work practices.
- Competent in Microsoft Office and Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
- Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Engineering.
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma,



or Continuous Improvement experience.
- High Risk Work Licences (Forklift, EWP, Overhead Crane, etc.) where applicable.
