NetStrategy works exclusively in K–12 education. We have supported over 400 schools across Australia for more than 40 years. ICT is not a sideline for us — it is the business. The people we hire are responsible for the technology that keeps schools running.
This role is built for someone who wants more than a standard helpdesk position — and is ready to prove it.
This is a hybrid role in the truest sense. Day to day, you will be delivering ICT support across a portfolio of school clients — troubleshooting, supporting infrastructure, and working within a structured service delivery team. At the same time, you will be applying and developing real DevOps capability: automation, pipelines, and cloud infrastructure work that sits alongside the support function rather than replacing it.
The balance will shift over time. The role starts support-heavy and grows toward DevOps as your confidence and capability build. What you bring on day one is a solid technical foundation and the curiosity to go further. What you build from there is up to you
What you'll be doing
The role has two connected parts:
ICT support and infrastructure
Providing day-to-day ICT support across end-user computing, connectivity, and core infrastructure for school clients
Troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues — working through problems methodically and escalating when needed
Supporting server environments, identity management, and cloud-based infrastructure
Contributing to infrastructure projects alongside senior engineers
Maintaining clear, timely communication with clients and internal stakeholders when issues arise
Keeping technical documentation accurate and up to date
DevOps and automation
Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions
Provisioning and configuring cloud infrastructure across Azure environments using Infrastructure as Code
Applying configuration management practices to keep environments consistent and reduce drift
Contributing to monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions for client infrastructure
Writing scripts to automate routine provisioning,
system updates, and repetitive operational tasks
Using workflow automation tools such as Microsoft Power Automate, Rewst, n8n, and Node-RED to turn manual processes into automated ones
Using AI coding tools such as Claude Code and ChatGPT Codex to build rapid proof-of-concepts and prototypes that can be matured into production-grade internal and client-facing tools
Working with container technologies such as Docker, building, modifying, and troubleshooting containerised workloads
Supporting security best practices across pipeline and infrastructure design
Producing clear technical documentation and runbooks for handover and ongoing support
Who we’re looking for
You are likely finishing or have recently completed a degree or certification in IT, computer science, or software engineering — or you have built equivalent practical experience through hands-on work and self-directed learning. You do not need commercial experience in both disciplines on day one. What matters is that you have a genuine technical foundation, an interest in automation and infrastructure, and the discipline to learn in a structured, client-facing environment.
What we’re looking for:
You work through problems logically and know when to ask for help
You communicate clearly with people who are not technical — and you do not make them feel like they should be
You follow through. If you say you will do something, you do it
You are curious about automation and infrastructure and take it on yourself to stay current
You have some exposure to DevOps tooling — whether through coursework, labs, or personal projects — and you want to develop it in a commercial environment
You take the work seriously but do not need to be chased to do it well
Skills and Experience
Relevant tertiary qualification in computer science, information technology, or software engineering — or equivalent practical experience
Foundational knowledge of networking, server environments, and end-user computing
Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and cloud-based infrastructure, particularly Azure
Exposure to CI/CD tooling or Infrastructure as Code — through study, labs, or personal projects
Scripting ability in at least one language (PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar)
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues methodically
Clear written and verbal communication
Full Australian work rights
Advantageous:
Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) or equivalent cloud certification
Exposure to GitHub or similar version control tools
Experience with VMware, Hyper‑V, or Azure virtualisation environments
Familiarity with ITSM tools or ticketing systems (ConnectWise is a plus)
SNMP configuration and network monitoring platforms such as Zabbix
Working with APIs, and an awareness of emerging tooling such as Model Context Protocol (MCP)
Experience in a managed services or multi-client environment (including internships or placements)
ITIL Foundation — useful context for how technology services are managed and delivered
Any prior experience in or with a school environment
Why NetStrategy?
We work in one sector. That means the context you build here is deep rather than scattered. You will understand schools — their operations, their rhythms, and their risk profile — in a way that generalist IT providers never do.
Across our school client base you will encounter different infrastructure configurations, different support challenges, and different automation problems — the kind of variety that accelerates a technical career faster than a single-site role ever could.
This role has a explicit path forward for the right person. The support foundation builds the practical instincts. The DevOps layer builds the capability that takes you further.
