Do you love undertaking practical research that has a real impact to industry?

Bejo Australia is seeking a motivated Research Agronomist to join our Production Research team based in Cressy, Tasmania. In this role, you will design and manage applied research projects related to the agronomy of our vegetable seed crops. Your work will directly impact our local seed production teams while contributing to Bejo's global research program.

Bejo Australia produces high-quality vegetable seed for our parent company, Bejo Zaden, a family-owned Dutch company and global leader in vegetable breeding, seed production, and seed sales. In Tasmania, we produce hybrid carrot, beet, brassica, and onion seed with a team of 55 employees.

Your Role

Working closely with both operational and research teams, you will lead applied research projects that address agronomy, pollination, and harvest challenges, while evaluating new technologies and methods for production. You will communicate and extend your research findings to local and international colleagues, and you will play a key role in supporting the future of seed production within Bejo.

Your key responsibilities will include:

- Effective design, planning and management of research trials to a high standard, including undertaking all practical tasks required to ensure their success.
- Work closely with stakeholders and colleagues to ensure effective extension of trial results to our local seed production teams and to Bejo’s global research teams.
- Communicate and build solid relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Work both independently and within multiple teams.
- Provide leadership and supervision to colleagues as required.
- Support and engage in the production of high-quality vegetable seeds.





To be considered you will need:

- A relevant tertiary qualification, or equivalent, with experience in agricultural research
- Flexibility to work outside normal hours and the ability and willingness to travel locally, interstate and internationally.
- Strong time management, project management, communication, and leadership skills.
- Be self-motivated, have a high degree of initiative, and have a positive attitude.
- Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, have a current Australian driver’s licence, and be proficient using a range of Microsoft office applications.

Selection criteria you will be evaluated against:

1. Well-developed skills and experience in leading and completing research trials to a high standard and with a results focus. Skills and experience with extending trial results to stakeholders in a flexible and holistic manner.
2. Experience working in the Agricultural industry and knowledge in agricultural or pollination systems.
3. Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with all stakeholders.
4. Highly developed time management and project management skills with proven capacity to coordinate and conduct a large range of tasks across multiple projects.
5. Well-developed skills in self-leadership and self-discipline, while working effectively within a team and for the good of the team.
