FSI Engineering designs, builds, installs and commissions materials handling, chemical dosing and water treatment systems for clients across Australia and New Zealand. We work as both head contractor and subcontractor on major infrastructure and industrial projects and we do it end to end, from concept through fabrication, installation and commissioning on site.

As Design Manager you will own the design function within our Projects division. You'll lead and grow a team of draftspeople and designers, set the technical standards they work to, and remain hands-on across the more complex packages yourself.

This is a genuine leadership position. You will have real authority over how design is planned, executed and signed off, and the accountability that goes with it.

What you'll be responsible for

- Resourcing and programme – planning design capacity across concurrent projects, setting and holding design programmes, and flagging risk early
- Team leadership – leading, mentoring and developing the design team; setting expectations, reviewing performance and building capability
- Design review and approval – nothing goes to the workshop, the client or site without your sign-off
- Technical governance – drawing standards, model and part libraries, templates, revision control and Vault administration
- Safety in Design – facilitating SiD reviews and discharging our designer duties under the WHS Act
- Buildability – working with procurement and the workshop so what we draw is what we can efficiently build, and BOMs are right the first time
- Client interface – design submissions, technical queries, RFIs, and IFA / IFC / as-built deliverables to head contractors
- Engineering coordination – structural, mechanical and process calculations, and managing the RPEQ certification pathway where projects require it
- Continuous improvement – finding and fixing the things that slow design down

What you'll be designing

- Chemical storage and dosing systems — Hydrated Lime, PAC, Polymer, acid and caustic,

- Silos, hoppers, weigh bins and loss-in-weight systems
- Batching and mixing tanks
- Pumping and dosing skids
- Pneumatic and mechanical conveying systems
- Access platforms, walkways and structural steel
- Greenfield concrete batching plant installations in collaboration with our strategic partner, Frumecar.
- Our primary tool is Autodesk Inventor Professional, however experience with Advanced Steel would also be desirable

About you

- Trade, Advanced Diploma or Bachelor-level qualification in mechanical or structural engineering, or equivalent demonstrated experience
- Significant experience in mechanical design for fabrication-led projects — structural steel, silos, tanks, vessels, dosing skids, connecting pipework, and plant layout
- Proven experience leading or mentoring a design or drafting team
- Advanced 3D CAD capability in Inventor and Advance Steel (or a comparable platform, with the ability to transition)
- Working knowledge of the relevant Australian Standards — AS 4100, AS 1657, AS 1210 / AS 4041 and AS 1554
- A practical understanding of fabrication and site installation constraints, and the judgement to design to them
- Confident dealing directly with clients, consultants and head contractors
- RPEQ registration, or a clear pathway to it
- Experience in water treatment, chemical dosing or bulk materials handling
- Exposure to tier-1 head contractor documentation and approval processes
- Familiarity with P&IDs; and the mechanical/process interface
