We are working with a tier-one mining client to recruit an experienced Civil Construction Superintendent to lead the successful delivery of multiple self-performed civil earthworks capital projects across regional Queensland. This is a strategic site leadership role where you will oversee construction activities across several operating areas while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Working on a rolling 12 month contract and a 9:5 FIFO roster, you will provide frontline leadership to Construction Leads, plant operators and trades while coordinating resources across multiple project sites. You will play a key role in supporting the annual sustaining capital program, driving continuous improvement initiatives and fostering a high-performing safety culture throughout project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the safe delivery of multiple self-performed civil earthworks capital projects, ensuring outcomes are achieved in line with cost, schedule, quality, environmental and risk requirements.
- Lead, coach and mentor Construction Leads and in-field execution teams, fostering a high-performing safety culture while supporting succession planning and workforce development.
- Coordinate labour, plant, equipment and materials, maximising the utilisation of site resources to deliver projects efficiently across multiple operating areas.
- Monitor construction progress, quality and compliance, reporting against project plans while supervising resources in accordance with Construction Management Plans and Project Execution Plans.
- Develop Construction Management Plans, provide construction input during tender reviews and project study phases, and support constructability, scheduling, costing, safety and risk assessments.
- Identify,
manage and mitigate construction risks and opportunities, while administering contract requirements, including variations, change management and contractor performance.
- Oversee the day-to-day execution of self-performed construction activities, ensuring Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management contractors meet project specifications and schedules.
- Drive continuous improvement and productivity initiatives, measuring, analysing and reporting on safety, people and operational performance.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, promoting collaboration and continuous improvement to achieve broader project and business objectives.
- Ensure project handover requirements, construction verification processes and project completion documentation are completed in accordance with site standards.
About You
- 10+ years in project construction experience in the contractor/delivery civil construction/earthmoving sectors.
- Demonstrated contractor and/or self-perform civil earthworks supervision experience, with proven experience leading multiple Construction Leads and field teams of 40+ personnel.
- Proven experience leading earthworks teams on large civil infrastructure projects and managing contracting partners in remote locations.
- Strong understanding of earthmoving plant and civil construction methodologies.
- Passion for developing safe, high-performing teams, with a solid commitment to HSE, safety leadership and continuous improvement.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to engage stakeholders at all organisational levels.
- Excellent planning, organisational, time management, customer service and administration skills, with strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability and attention to detail when interpreting construction plans and designs.
- Ability to identify, manage and respond to project risks and opportunities.
- Competent in Microsoft Office Suite, with a good understanding of SAP.
- Strong work ethic, proactive attitude, high level of personal integrity, and willingness to work a flexible FIFO roster.
- Civil construction experience in a similar role within the mining construction industry will be highly regarded.
